Borzov, Mikhail
Bc. Borzov, M., Income Inequality Development in V4 Countries. Bachelor's thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2023. The bachelor's thesis titled "Income Inequality Development in V4 Countries" deals with the identification of relevant factors that affect the development of income inequality in individual countries of the Visegrad Group during the period of 2004-2020. The theoretical part of the thesis provides an up-to-date overview of studies dealing with income inequality issues. This part of the thesis analyzes theoretical concepts and various approaches currently used to explain income inequality. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on conducting a correlation and regression analysis to identify specific factors that influence income inequality. The results of the regression analysis show that among the significant factors are unemployment, globalization, industrial structure, its added value, and other factors. These results suggest that changes in these factors may have a significant impact on income inequality in V4 countries.
Vliv investic do dálniční infrastruktury na socioekonomické ukazatele vybraného regionu
Kučera, Štěpán
Kučera, Š. The impact of state investments in highway infrastructure on socio-economic indicators of a selected region. Master thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2023. The thesis focuses on the identification of the impact of state investments in highway infrastructure on selected socio-economic indicators. The variables examined include unemployment rate, number of companies by number of employees, housing construction and total population growth. The thesis focuses on the assessment of the impact of the implementation of the D1 highway section, which connects the capital city of Prague and the regional city of Hradec Králové. Based on theoretical assumptions, the thesis uses a difference-in-differences method, which is combined with a synthetic control method with panel regression techniques. The empirical analysis focuses on assessing the impact of highway construction on the dynamics of selected socio-economic indicators within the region, which includes six municipalities with extended jurisdiction, and data are examined with an annual frequency from 2002 to 2021. The results suggest that the implementation of highway infrastructure as part of state investment does not automatically confer a competitive advantage and economic growth, as would be expected from initial assumptions.
Evaluation of International Financial Integration on Growth in CEE Countries
Yang, Yang ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Li, Yating (referee) ; Čech, František (referee)
The thesis examines the influence of international financial integration on growth in Central and Eastern European economies using a two-way fixed effects model with macroeconomic data for 16 Central and Eastern European countries from 2007 to 2021. The thesis draws several conclusions. First, the ratio of net FDI inflows and outflows to GDP does not present a significant effect on growth. Although the stock data on FDI is similarly not significant for the overall sample regression, the regression of the sample divided into developed and developing economies shows a positive effect of FDI liabilities on economic growth for developed economies and a negative effect of FDI liabilities on economic growth for developing economies. Second, for both the overall sample, developed economies, and developing economies, none of the portfolio investment asset variables are statistically significant, except for portfolio investment assets in developing economies. Third, both portfolio debt and other investment debt negatively affect economic growth in developing economies and the overall sample, while the result is not significant for developed economies.
Poverty, Inequality and Economic Growth: the Case of Post-Soviet Countries
Ren, Jiayi ; Holub, Tomáš (advisor) ; Li, Yating (referee) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
This paper empirically examines the triangular relationship between poverty, growth, and income inequality in 13 post-Soviet countries between 1998 and 2020. Regression results reveal that economic growth has a significant negative impact on poverty while income inequality has a significant positive impact on poverty. Initial conditions (both initial economic growth and initial income inequality) matter in explaining the change of poverty. Poverty tends to be more responsive to the change of income inequality. Growth effect and inequality effect varied across different subgroups. Moreover, mutual causality has been found between poverty and income inequality while the unidirectional impact of income inequality on growth is inverted- U shaped. Finally, a significant moderation effect of economic growth on the linkage between poverty and income inequality has been found.
Sustainable regional development: Application of the Human Development Index (HDI) in three selected regions
MACKOVÁ, Ladislava
The aim of this thesis is to compare the sustainable development of the three regions based on the Human Development Index, which includes factors such as education, GDP (GNI) per capita, and life expectancy. The regions are considered to be the territories of three countries: The Kingdom of Sweden, The Czech Republic and The Hellenic Republic. The main research question is whether there has been a decoupling between economic growth and its impact on environmental pollution after 2008. The practical part includes analysis of secondary statistical data for selected countries focusing on the development of carbon dioxide emissions and economic level as well as correlation between HDI and a country's economic development. For the last sub-analysis, it is necessary to modify the HDI to reflect the influence of carbon dioxide emissions and create a new indicator referred to in this thesis as UHDI. This step is taken to determine the influence of environmental pollution on the ranking of countries according to UHDI and HDI.

Společenská odpovědnost ve strategii podnikatelských subjektů
FUCHSOVÁ, Eva
Corporate social responsibility is a common part of corporate practice and an established topic of scientific research. Although many companies in the Czech Republic support CSR, the current trend in the strategic concept of the concept of social responsibility has not been sufficiently researched. Foreign studies have repeatedly concluded that the consistent incorporation of corporate social responsibility into corporate strategy and the strategic management of all dimensions of CSR strengthens corporate growth, brings competitive advantages, and contributes to society's sustainable development. The thesis aims to find out whether even in the Czech Republic business entities with a strategic concept of CSR achieve better economic results compared to those whose approach to social responsibility is rather intuitive and unsystematic. At the same time, it seeks to answer the question of whether, with different corporate strategies, it is desirable to focus on different CSR activities that would support corporate growth. A survey of the dimensions of strategic CSR and basic economic characteristics was carried out on a set of more than 400 Czech companies engaged in CSR. Data were processed by methods of cluster analysis, factor analysis and multinomial logistic regression. The results show that there is a link between a more advanced, i.e. strategic concept of CSR and achieving economic prosperity. It was also found that companies with different corporate strategies should carefully consider the benefits of individual CSR activities. All three strategies showed positive effects in activities aimed at employees and the local community, the differentiation strategy showed the benefits of cultivating a market environment and the quality strategy of human rights protection. Conversely, with the price strategy, additional CSR activity does not mean an economic advantage. The conclusions contribute to clarifying the links between strategic CSR and corporate growth in the Czech business environment and provide specific insights that companies can implement if they want to strengthen the positive effects of their socially responsible activities.
