SLIPKOVÁ, Šárka
This bachelor's thesis entitled "Historical Development of Rural Settlements" deals primarily with the development of settlements from prehistory to modern history. It describes types of buildings in particular regions of the Czech Republic and summarizes the progressive development and organization of rural residential houses. It deals with the development of church and mansion buildings as well. The constructions and the special elements of folk architecture which gave the buildings their distinctive character changed gradually depending on the available material. In the countryside there appeared mainly agricultural estates, which included farm buildings, therefore one of the chapters was focused on the most important ones. The last chapter is devoted to the demonstration of beautiful folk architecture, which was preserved in the South Bohemian region.

HAVRDOVÁ, Markéta
My work deals with the history of recent explotation of handicrafts in the relationship to a countryside and freetime activities. When describing the history of handicrafts and the life in a countryside, I supported my work with information I got from a specific literature. The interviews with the autochthons are used to testify the information about villages in the firsth half of the 20th century, when the handicafts performed an important task in an everyday life. I dedicated most of my attention to basket-making for which there are some more particular information about the history, materials and techniques used when making baskets. In a part of my work, dedicated to the recent use of handicrafts as freetime activities, I speak from my own experience with organising a craftmaking worshops in Čestín. My work reflects a view of one, to whom the traditional handicrafts offer a good way of artistic self-realisation, that helps improving creativity, patience and satisfies one?s intelectual interest about history and tradition, as a counterpart to our modern world.
