Hipotherapy as a part of coherent rehabilitation by multiple handicapped children
HONNER, Petr
Hippotherapy is a method of physiotherapy which transmits a regular three-dimensional movement of a walking horse from the horseback to the client in various positions. This movement is unique and it stimulates postural reflexes, coordination and balance responses, provides proprioceptive sensorimotor stimulation and it practices and fixes physiological movement patterns. The impulses are transmitted from the horse to the client´s lumbosacral area of the spine via the pelvis. As a person riding a horse does not load his/her legs the rider´s response to the moving horseback is a specific movement pattern for the trunk and pelvis, as if the person is walking. This aspect of hippotherapy cannot be replaced with any other rehabilitation method. It is performed in a non-clinical environment and it offers to the client the opportunity to communicate with the horse and to get outdoors to places that would be otherwise not available for him/her due to the disability. The children and adults are thus involved in an activity they can talk about with friends. The horse and the environment around contribute to the treatment of the body and soul alike. The theoretical part of my bachelor thesis deals with the definition of hippotherapy within the integrated rehabilitation of persons with various types of handicaps. I have focused particularly on individuals afflicted with spinal muscular atrophy and hereditary sensorimotor polyneuropathy. The objective of my bachelor thesis is to describe favorable effects of hippotherapy on children with various types of handicaps. The research part deals with the utilization of the method in practice. The qualitative techniques used for data collection included medical records, observations, secondary analysis of data and photographic documentation. The results of hippotherapy demonstrated favorable effects on both the monitored clients who attend the ARPIDA rehabilitation center for handicapped people. The research was conducted on clients with spinal muscular atrophy of type III and hereditary sensorimotor polyneuropathy. The casuistry of both the clients describes the course and results of the therapy.
Hippotherapy, a part of the medical treatment of children with cerebral palsy
MACHOVÁ, Eva
My bachelor's thesis called Hippotherapy, a Part of the Medical Treatment of Children with Cerebral Palsy focuses on the influence and effects of hippotherapy on the locomotive apparatus and emotional feelings of three children's patients. The research took place from January to March 2011 on the premises of the Sociotherapeutic Farm of the Mental Hospital Bohnice in Prague. Nowadays the awareness of hippotherapy is growing both among specialists and laymen. However, it is important to realize that hippotherapy does not only mean horse riding which make people feel emotionally good, but it is also a purposeful and efficient therapeutic method. In my bachelor's thesis I emphasize the positive impact of this therapy not only on the emotional state of mind, but also on the locomotive apparatus of clients and the muscle tone. My bachelor's thesis is divided in two parts ? theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is an overview of my knowledge of hippo-rehabilitation with focus on hippotherapy from professional books and other available sources. I also present my knowledge of children's cerebral palsy (DMO), possibilities of physiotherapy of cerebral palsy and types of muscle tone. The practical part focuses on the research regarding effects of hippotherapy on patients suffering from DMO. By using the hippotherapy evaluation test (Hollý, Hornáček, 2005) I evaluated the influence of hippotherapy on the locomotive apparatus of patients sitting on a horse, by measuring the distance of epicondylus lateralis femur of the right and left lower limbs in the maximum abduction (Drhovský, 2006) I evaluated the influence on spasticity of patient's lower limbs, by using a verbal scale of feelings of happiness (Hollý, Hornáček, 2005) I tried to find out whether horse riding makes children with DMO feel happy and based on the secondary analysis of data I tried to outline the effects of hippotherapy in the medical treatment of children with DMO. The objective of my bachelor's thesis is to provide new information on hippotherapy both to professionals and public and to emphasize its positive effects on humans.

BEČVÁŘOVÁ, Ivana
Hippotherapy is concerned with physiotherapy, which is carried out with the help of the horses. This therapy includes the fields of psychology, medicine, pedagogy and also sport. Hippotherapy helps not only children but also adults with various types of disability. This decades used method of rehabilitation is an excellent and the most comprehensive therapy. It combines physical therapy, psychotherapy and social therapy. This thesis deals with the educational availability, organization, health and social benefits of hippotherapy for children with mental, aural and visual disability on comparison of Central Bohemia and South Bohemia regions. The aim of this work is to determine what possibilities of the hippotherapy usage are and what activity offers and prices for hippotherapy service provision are available in the particular organizations which offer hippotherapy in South Bohemia and Central Bohemia regions. In our research we used content analysis of literature and the Internet, were selected websites and literature which are focused on issues and problems of riding and hippotherapy. Some information was also obtained by direct interview, telephone and email inquiries. Acquired information about educational availability, amount of organizations and affordability were statistically evaluated and percentage assessed in the final tables and graphs. The assumption was that a greater range of organizations and activities are in the Central region. This assumption was confirmed. Contribution to improving the awareness and orientation would be complete lists of organizations, which are engaged in hippotherapy, on the websites. The inclusion of the hippotherapy between the services supported by health insurance is also very important, so that such physiotherapy could be financially accessible to all clients and the financial grants would help to increase the number of organizations providing hippotherapy.

At the beginning, there is the definition of the group of children and young people with behaviour disabilities. The second part, called ethology of the horse, describes the most important characteristics of the horses. The following part defines the term hypo rehabilitation. The most important characteristics of the horse, which are successfully used in therapy, are presented in the forth part. The fifth part characterizes the horsemanship and its most important representatives. The following part shows, why is horsemanship well suited to be used for this kind of clients. The last part deals with the horse therapy itself, with its effect on the client, with the role of the therapist, with the choice of horses for each kind of clients. The diploma thesis has proven the importance of the social behaviour of the horse in the therapy and the possibility of using it as a mirror in the work with people. Further, it has shown the necessity of future investigations in this field and the urgency of further education of the therapists in psychotherapy, ethology and communication with the horses.
The system of providing of therapeutic pedagogical-psychological riding as a part of hipporehabilitation in the Czech Republic
ŠUHÁJKOVÁ, Pavla
Abstract This work is focused to theoretical and utility information from the hippo-rehabilitation branch. The hippo-rehabilitation, or the therapy by means horse, is a rather new phenomenon as a branch in the Czech Republic which has come only after 1989 and has been unknown to wider public till now. The hippo-rehabilitation is the peerless widest therapy, which merges biological, psychological, and social effects of horse to human organism. The thesis incorporates much inspiring information on the hippo-rehabilitation, its areas, on the selection and preparation of a horse for the hippo-rehabilitation, and on the natural partnership of horse and man. However, the biggest part is designated to one of the hippo-rehabilitation areas, i.e. to the therapeutic pedagogical-psychological riding (abbreviated LPPJ in Czech), which ranks mostly among psychology to psychiatry and pedagogy. The LPPJ is a dynamically developing branch and the number of facilities to offer this is increasing. The objective of the research was to map the system providing LPPJ in the Czech Republic and, at the same time, to assess its quality. For the research part I have selected the qualitative research method. To verify the findings and to increase the validity of the study, I have also used the document analysis method (secondary data analysis technique), interrogation (semi-standardised interview technique) and the involved observation. Photographic documentation was the supplementary technique. The research was performed in seven member organisations of the Czech Hippo-rehabilitation Society that provide the LPPJ. On the basis of information obtained by the data collection in all the facilities professional attitude of the hippo-rehabilitation teams has been proven, as well as meeting of conditions for admission of clients in the LPPJ, establishing of therapeutic objectives, maintaining of documentation, and regular recording of therapy progress. In the present period of the zoo-therapy ``boom{\crqq} important is precisely specified terminology on the LPPJ's performance and on the whole hippo-rehabilitation. In the Czech Republic we have been still short of sufficient quantity of specialised literature, thus a lot of people still having a faint view of what the hippo-rehabilitation is and what to await from this therapeutic rehabilitation method. Due to these reasons I hope my thesis will also contribute to the extension of the study documents and will improve availability of valid information on the performing of this modern method to the LPPJ's users.
