Perception of the female role in a group of women with an autism spectrum disorder
VLČKOVÁ, Pavla
This bachelor's thesis is devoted to the topic " Perception of the female role in a group of women with an autism spectrum disorder". The reason for choosing this topic is the absence of knowledge. The aim of this thesis is to fill this gap and bring new knowledge that might help in education and general approach to people with an autism spectrum disorder. The thesis also brings a view of adolescent women on their approach to the female role. What symbolizes the female role. How do they relate the female role to their person. The research was carried out using a qualitative strategy, a method of interviews with adolescent women and their mothers. The interviews were studied, and their connections were evaluated. The information obtained showed that adolescent women with autism spectrum disorder are extremely influenced in the perception of the female role by their mothers, as mothers were brought up according to a long-standing grounded stereotype. I can assume that the obtained information may be a benefit to mothers of adolescent women with autism spectrum disorder in the future. It also can make mothers do not act so much according to the grounded stereotype and leave their teenage daughters the opportunity to form their own view of the female role.
Man working in the general nurse profession
DAŇKOVÁ, Klára
The topic of this bachelor thesis is "Man working in the general nurse profession". The main goal of this theses is to map the work of men in this profession. We were interested in the general public and educated public point of view of this profession and how their field of work is perceived by male nurses as well. Quantitative, as well as qualitative research, were applied. Both types of research were chosen to offer a compact and holistic point of view of this topic. Questions asked in qualitative research are: What are the reasons for men to work as a general nurse? How does the general public perceive male general nurses? Which obstacles and difficulties face male general nurses? Data have been collected by semi-structured interviews, which have been done with eight male nurses. In the quantitative part, these hypotheses are set: 1. Attitude towards male nurses differs depending on gender. 2. Attitude towards male nurses differs depending on age. Data have been collected by a questionnaire. The research sample consists of 218 persons that are not working in health care. In general, we found out that the opinion of men in the profession of general nurse is not dependent on age, but it is dependent on gender. Given the fact that the general nurse profession is to this day considered to be rather a feminine profession, this thesis is beneficial especially for the general public because it informs and tears down possible misconceptions and sheds a light on the issue. It also offers an opportunity for men to inform themselves of a possibility for males to work as a general nurse and consider it their future profession.
Does gender play a role in peace journalism practices? An analysis of the Armenian and Azerbaijani coverage of the 44 days Karabakh war
Di Mauro, Teresa ; Dimitrov, Michal (advisor) ; Neag, Annamária (referee)
This study explores peace journalism practices in the context of the 44 days Karabakh war and whether the reporter's gender matters in applying this approach. The research draws on analysis of eight conducted reconstruction interviews with Armenian and Azerbaijani female and male reporters. The results show that peace journalism faces several challenges in the region: from press freedom restrictions, to the prohibition of accessing the war zone especially for the Azerbajani reporters, to the fear of being targeted as traitors, and to the additional difficulties of those reporters who are refugees themselves. Furthemore, when applying gender lenses to the analysis, the impact of patriarchal norms in the reporters' work is evident. While women were more likely to access war victims, but faced challenges when embedded in the masculine environment of the army, men would be seen as 'weak' for adopting a more peaceful approach in their reporting. Although there is no shared view among the respondents on the role of the reporter's gender in appling peace journalism, the ingrained gender roles of the two societies help explain why female reporters are more likely than their male colleagues to embrace peace journalism. Career choice in adolescence: role of gender stereotypes and identification with mathematics
Louda, Petr ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Rendl, Miroslav (referee)
Career choice in education and the acquired/achieved level of education are factors that influence social status of men and women. Despite the fact that women, on average, currently achieve a higher level of education than men, women's marketplace status and their height of salary often do not correspond to it. One of the reasons is a low proportion of women in mathematics-related subjects. The aim of this research was to investigate the role of gender stereotypes and identification with mathematics in career choice. In the theoretical part of this thesis, I introduce the basic terms related to gender and gender stereotypes, the role gender plays in institutions and the potential causes of gender differences in the performance in mathematics. In the empirical part, I analyse data from a questionnaire study investigating career choice, level of identification with mathematics, attitudes to courses in the curriculum and the level of gender stereotypes in Czech adolescents. The results suggest few differences between girls and boys in these areas. However, the level of identification with mathematics and the level of gender stereotypes in the career area are related to the educational career choice.
