The Exemplum in Postilla by M. Jan Hus
KRCHOVÁ, Tereza
The character of Master Jan Hus is inherently connected to the history of our country. Not only he influenced many people during his life, his followers have honoured his legacy after his death. Most remarkable is his effort to reform the Christian Church and to correct the priests, who have deflected from Christ. The purpose of this work is to document the life and work of Jan Hus. The most important part is the chapter about Česká nedělní postila, which was written at Kozí castle. Specifically finding the period actualisations and their interpretation. Postila is the most important work written by Hus and its content is very specific and it differs from his previous works.
Comparison of Italian text and Czech translation of Věčný pekelný žalář
Jasanská, Zuzana ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Flemrová, Alice (referee)
The task of this diploma thesis is to confront the writing La prigione eterna dell'Inferno that was written by Giovanni Battista Manni with its Czech translation that was made by Václav Matěj Šteyer. This piece of writing, La prigione, was published in 1666 and the Šteyer's work in 1676. The writer Šteyer translated the text directly from the Italian one according to the fourth publication of Manni's master copy from the year 1669 because Manni changed there some passages in last two chapters and these changes are seen in the Czech version too. Neither Manni's writing was not original. He was inspired by a tract that was written by the Spanish Jesuit, Juan Eusebio Nieremberg. I observed the way how Šteyer proceeded in the translation of Manni's master copy, especially in the field of lexicon, syntax and stylistics. I also concerned how the rhetoric of Jesuit schools is presented by both authors.

The analysis of a manuscript (1681) written by Constantinus Fridericus Lewy
ANDERLOVÁ, Michaela
The aim of my bachelor thesis is a comparison of a uniquely extant manuscript, a col-lection of eighty two moralizing exempla written in 1681 in Czech by Constantinus Fridericus Lewy, a pastor of Zlatá Koruna and a printed piece of work named Vejklad prostý na nejsvětější modlitbu Kristem Pánem vydanou Otčenáš written by Šimon Lomnický z Budče in 1605. A transliteration of first fifty exempla accompanied by a list of themes that occur in the manuscript is other component of my bachelor thesis.
Matthias Wenceslaus Steyer and 'his' exempla
Havelka, Tomáš
The Jesuit Mathias Wenceslaus Steyer belongs among most important persons of the Czech literature of the second half of the 17th Century. His Postila katolická (The Catholic Postil) is remarkable for many reasons, this article focuses attention just on the narrative level of exempla. Moreover, if we join exempla from the postil and his translation of Manni's Eternal Infernal Jail, Steyer becomes one of the most important producer of exempla of his time. The article attempts unveil some aspects of his strategy how to work with exempla. On few cases, it shows various interpretative and literary historical problems.
