The 1950s in The Mirror of Czech Satire.
VESELÁ, Alena
The presented bachelor thesis deals with Chechoslovak satire in the first half of the 1950s, specifically in the years 1954 and 1955. At this time, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia started to support the development of satire and it also came into the focus of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers. The thesis shows how the view on this literary form changed due to a conference on satire in 1954 that demanded a new kind of satire (supposed to be uplifting and aiding the development of socialist society) . These demands are then compared with two years of the magazine Dikobraz and the thesis assessess how big an influence they had on the magazine. The bachelor thesis is divided into three parts. The first gives a brief introduction to the development of satirical literature in Czechoslovakia and in the world and to the important terms in the field of satire. The second is about the history of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers and the course and results of the conferences it organized in 1954. The third focuses on the satirical magazine Dikobraz and the social problems it criticized.
