The role of the West in the non-development of Congo
Šikulová, Eva ; Volenec, Otakar (advisor) ; Kochan, Jan (referee)
This paper describes the development of Congo since its beginnings until today and focuses on the influence of the Western world on the country. Congo was founded by the Belgian king Leopold II and became his personal colony. Leopold's regime was orientated on the expoitation of Congo's natural resources, above all rubber and ivory. The inhuman treatment of Africans caused international criticism and Leopold was forced to hand over the colony to Belgium. Under belgian rule the economic development of Congo started, even though congolese people were still considered second category citiziens. After gaining independence the country was caught in total chaos until the revolution by general Mobutu. After taking over the government, he ruled Congo for 32 years, supported by the West, and the country was systematically ruined. In 1997, during the first Congo war, Mobutu was overthrown by Laurent Kabila. One year later another war started and though it officialy ended in 2003, a regional conflict in Kivu is still going on. The motivation of armed groups is the mineral wealth of the region. Western companies are indirectly financing the conflict through importing conflict minerals.
The History of Land Consolidation in Our Territory
HÜTTNER, Martin
The present Bachelor's thesis deals with the development of land consolidation in our territory until the end of the 19th century. Land consolidations were started already in the Middle Ages and went through the periods of colonization, the development of land registers, raabisation, and land consolidation works. Each period of the development of land consolidation had a distinct form, content, and an economic and social objective. Furthermore, the work addresses the issue of the position of church property during the development of land consolidation in our territory and its influence on the land consolidations. Finally, it describes land consolidation in foreign countries.
Impact of abiotic factors on community assembly of freshwater insect and other invertebrates in small standing water bodies.
DOSTÁLKOVÁ, Eva
This thesis discusses the abiotic factors that influence conditions for community assembly of water invertebrates organisms in small water reservoirs. The aim of this thesis was to compare the role of and interaction among main abiotic factors for the assembly process. In addition, main biotic factors playing role in community structuring are reviewed and the possibilities of abiotic factors to affect them are discussed. The thesis further reviews abiotic properties that affect colonizator?s habitat choice and summarizes their implication for community assembly.
Study on the history of the medieval settlement. Archeology in the Telč area.
BARTUŠEK, Petr
The purpose of this paper is to show the development of the Telc microregion with detailed orientation towards the period of medieval colonization. Based on the summarized knowledge of the hitherto performed archaeological research and historically oriented studies the development of the settlement in the examined area in 13 and 14 century is delineated here. The paper is primarily based on the research that has already been done by the Vysocina Museum in Jihlava and on PhDr. Josef Blaha and Prof. PhDr. Lubomir Konecny´s works along with some other archaeologists concerned with the research of the Telč localities. The paper is demonstrating a possible approach to the problems of the local medieval settlement and implies some other information obtained from the current historical and archaeological research of the microregion. The paper is also attempting to point out some hitherto unanswered problems and questions referring to the archaeological explorations in the Telc area. Annexes: Map sets, drawings and photographic documentation of immovable archaeological monuments drawings and photographic documentation of archaeological finds, photographical documentation of presumed ZSO positions.
Medieval Mansion of Nobility Vítkův Hrádek (Archeological findings in 13th - 15th centuries)
VÁGNER, Jindřich
The bachelor work aims to present the current Czech castelology on the example of Vítkův Hrádek. It concerns with the castle typology, the history of Šumava settlement research in castle neighbourhood and the castle archeology in High Middle Ages in 13th to 15th centuries. The research work shows one of the potencial points of view of archeological research and history of mountain castles which have been forgotten by the researchers until now. The main theme of this work is one of this castles ? Vítkův Hrádek which became the subject of the archeological researchs only in the last ten years.
Development of settlement in Krems basin with emphasis on material sources from high middle ages until early modern period
HAMAN, Jaroslav
This work analyzes the development of settlement in Krems basin and it is mainly focused on the period of medieval colonization and on early modern period. The description of the development of settlement in explored district is based on written documents, geographical data, toponymy and it is especially based on archeological sources. This work is the synthesis of researches which were made by South-Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice, Regional Museum in Český Krumlov and surface collection of J. Polách. Appendices: Maps, catalogue, layout and photographical documentation of immovable archeological monuments, drawings and photography of finds, etc.
Czechs and Germans in the Znojemsko Region during 1918-1946
PADALÍK, Jiří
The main purpose of the diploma thesis is to describe the development in the Czech-German relationships in Znojemsko region during the years 1918 {--} 1946. The inquiry is based on available archive sources and relevant literature. The diploma thesis is divided into four basic chapters. The first chapter summarizes the history of co-existence of both ethnics in the South Moravia until the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918. The following chapter is devoted to changes and development in relations among Czechs and Germans in Znojmo on the background of events which immediately followed after the World War I, whereas significant part is concerned with liberation of Znojmo in December 1918. The third chapter characterizes the Czech-German co-existence during the interwar period, especially in the context of taken elections. The last chapter describes demographical and national changes in the Znojemsko region during 1936 {--} 1946. The archive sources which are stored in the State Archive in Znojmo and the relevant literature are crucial for elaboration of the thesis. Visual materials are attached to the thesis; they serve as a complement to the text.

The application of artificial substrates for quantitative and qualitative study of macrozoobenthos.
MAČEJ, Jakub
Macrozoobenthos are aquatic invertebrates, usually bigger than approximately 2 mm, living on the bottom. The larvae of aquatic insects (mayflies, midges, caddisflies, etc.), worms, molluscs and crustaceans belong among its most important representatives. The study was performed on a pond channel of the experimental pond system of the FFPW Vodnany. The artificial substrates, made of plastic blocks from biological filters, were installed in five rows of five blocks (replications) to monitor the process of their colonization in order to evaluate their suitability for the monitoring of macrozoobenthos. At weekly intervals, one series of five artificial substrates was sampled to collect colonizing macroinvertebrates for further elaboration (determination, numbers). It was confirmed that under the conditions of a pond canal, the colonization of artificial substrates by benthic animals begins immediately during the first week of their deployment. Species diversity of macrozoobenthos, expressed in number of taxa in successive weeks afterwards was not significantly different. The results proved that artificial substrates are suitable for quantitative and qualitative monitoring of benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage.
Algae and cyanobacteria colonizing toxic soils on coal-mining dumps
HRČKOVÁ, Kristýna
Species composition of soil algal and cyanobacterial communities was investigated in thirteen sites of different toxicity of spoil material on dumps in the Sokolov mining area (Czech Republic). The adaptation ability of various algal and cyanobacterial species to live in toxic environment and the effect of different amendments (wooden coal, organic matter, dolomitic limestone) of toxic soils were tested both in laboratory and field experiments. According to results, species composition corresponded to environmental characteristic (pH, conductivity, substrate type). Some green unicellular algae grew successfully in extracts from the most toxic substrate and seemed to be well adapted to low pH conditions. Results indicate that increase of pH is a basic precondition for the establishment of more diverse and abundant algal flora in highly acidic sites.
