Parental reactions to children's negative emotions and their relations to behavior problems in kindergarten
ŠIMONOVÁ, Sára Anne
In the theoretical part of the thesis the parent's reactions to children's negative emotions, in relation to their children's developmental outcomes and studies, are introduced. The other part of the thesis deals with the parental reactions in practice. The practical part consists of a quantitative study and the main purpose is to contribute to understanding some of the factors connected with children's problematic behavior in kindergarten. We assume that unsupportive parental reactions are related to problematic behavior. This assumption was verified using a questionnaire construction. The research sample consisted of a total of 41 respondents from 3 different kindergartens. Parental reactions to negative emotions of a child were evaluated by mothers using CCNES questionnaire. CBQ-VS was completed by mothers to assess their child's temperament. Primary caregivers completed PKBS questionnaire about children's problematic behavior in kindergarten. The results indicated that there is a relation between mother-reported parental reactions to the negative emotion of a child and his/her problematic behavior. Child surgency is connected to externalizing problems. Some of our results differ from the conclusions of similar studies (e.g. no relation between maternal strategies and child's behavioral problems). This discrepancy could be caused by the small size of the research sample (data collection was disrupted by the state of emergency over COVID-19 declared by government). Thus, further research with a larger sample and standardized questionnaires is merited.
The relation between child's temperament and mother's satisfaction on maternity leave
BLAŽKOVÁ, Iveta
This thesis is dealing with the relationship between temperament and satisfaction of mothers staying on maternity and parental leave. In the theoretical part there are summarized basic knowledge about maternity, temperament (especially child temperament) and life satisfaction. In the empiric part there was studied if the child temperament is connected with the mother's life satisfaction. Next issues to follow were the relationships between temperament and general psychological situation or perceived parental competence. A quantitative research was taken with women on maternity and parental leave. The Questionnaire of life satisfaction, considering scale SUPOS 7 PC, Parenting Sense of Competence Scale, Infant Behavior Questionnaire-Revised and Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire were used to collect the data. Eight major and complementary hypotheses were defined; a discussion deals with their results and possible limits of the research.
