The character of "parvenu" in the French novel of the 19th century: The Red and the Black by Stendhal and Bel-Ami by Maupassant

The bachelor work deals with the analysis of the mains characters of novels The Red and the Black written by Stendhal and Bel-Ami by Guy de Maupassant. Firstly, we introduce a literature movement (realism) into which these two pieces of the work falls. We present the typical tools of this movement and clarify the historical context. We also present the life and work of the above mentioned authors. Furthermore, we define the character of novel and its characteristics. We explain the term parvenu which appears in title of the work. But mainly, we focus on the analysis of Julien Sorel and Georges Duroy made on the bases of their origins, appearance, character and relationships. Finally, we compare them and decide who we can call the parvenu.
