Abstact This undergraduate thesis examines possible means of overcoming communication barriers appearing in interaction with young readers. Specific strategies to eliminate communication breakdowns between young readers, their parents, school and library staff are further explored. The research part of the thesis investigates interactions in a second grade reading environment through a case study. The thesis concludes with a brief summary of current issues and suggestions of how libraries could take an active part in improving communication with young readers.
