Problems of Literary Translation. An Analysis of Part of a Translation of Karel Poláček´s Novel "Bylo nás pět" in German

This thesis deals with translation of literary texts. It points out what is essential to be translated and what rules are necessary for a translator. It discusses the writer Karel Poláček and one of his best-known novels called Bylo nás pět. The work refers to corpus linguistics that facilitates the analysis. The basic principles of translating are defined and the history of translating is briefly introduced. The second part deals with a translation of one chapter of the novel. The analysis focuses on the differences and similarities between the original and translated texts.
