The magic and power of red lipsticks. How do they affect our perception and communication with our surroundings
Nevšímalová, Nikola ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This master thesis The magic and power of red lipsticks represents theoretical-empirical analysis that argues how red lipsticks influence our perception and how we communicate through them with our surrounding. The thesis stems from the basic assumption that red lipstick is truly important and bold communication mean that is able to talk to our surrounding in a completely different ways than other colors or color shades. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether the aforementioned assumption matches the reality. Key questions for this master thesis were as follows: How do women communicate with their surrounding through red color (red lipstick)? What do they expect from these communication means? How do they feel when they communicate through these means (when they wear red lipstick)? How to they perceive reactions for this mean of communication? What are these reactions like (men- and women- wise)? The master thesis is based on researches from the field of beauty, human attractiveness or perception of red color that have already been done and it presents several different theories about human beautification as well as cosmetics evolution and evolution of perception of beauty itself. Except these, the thesis focuses on media content and the ways in which media, mainly social media and other...
Body surfaces of reptiles as projection screens of evolution
Abramjan, Andran ; Frynta, Daniel (advisor) ; Rehák, Ivan (referee) ; Šulc, Michal (referee)
The PhD thesis deals mainly with the coloration (and also scalation) of selected reptile species and explores evolutionary or ecological contexts indicated by these traits. The main topics can be roughly divided into two groups: 'antipredation signals' and 'effects of parthenogenesis'. The dominant method used in most studies is visual modelling. The work consists of the following case studies. 1) Blue-tongue skinks use their conspicuous blue tongues to threaten potential predators. We found that the tongue has a relatively high UV reflectance, a typical feature of intraspecific communication in lizards. Using visual models, we investigated how the blue tongue is perceived by the conspecifics and predators (birds of prey). In both visual models, the UV-blue tongue appears more conspicuous against the natural background than a pink tongue. In addition, in the conspecifics model, its hue partially overlaps with hues of UV-blue spots, which are sexually selected traits in various species of lizards. Thus, the UV-blue tongue seems to contribute to the effectiveness of the deimatic display and its possible role in intraspecific communication cannot be ruled out either. 2) We detected UV reflectance in non-pigmented areas of the skin in the Leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius). These form white patches...

Hladišová, Michaela ; Ruda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Holánek, Michal (referee)
Title of Study: Research for brand identity Fit&Body Thesis Objectives: The main aim of this bachelor thesis is designing a definite sample of brand for studio, which offers massages and activities, wich are destinguished from the competion. Additionaly to that, the bachelor thesis sheds a light on competition analysis, analysis of the brand Fit&Body, conducting interviews with studio's clients, experts on branding and marketing and subsequent implementation of the findings into the process of building the brand based on the conducted research. Methods: In order to be reached the ultimate goal of the bachelor thesis the following methods have been applied:  analysis of competition brands,  analysis of building the brand Fit&Body,  in-depth interviews. Over the past 8 years we have published thirteen papers belonging to this field of research. This thesis presents the current state of the art and puts these papers into context. Our research is focused on modalities in the visible and near-infrared parts of the spectrum and affects vari- ous tasks of art investigation. For studying the spectral response of paint materials, we suggest a low-cost mobile multi-band acquisition system and a calibration method extended by a light source with an adjustable wavelength. We created the m3art database of the spectral responses of pigments, available for comparison and public use. The central point of our research is underdrawing detection and visual- ization. For this purpose we have developed: acquisition guidelines based on optical properties of the topmost non-transparent layer, a visualization technique for comparison of modalities, and a signal separation technique...
