Communication of nurses with hearing impaired patient on covid units
RAUŠOVÁ, Ilona
Introduction: For nurses, communication is a basic instrument in the nursing process. During the Covid-19 pandemic, nurses were obliged to wear protective equipment to prevent the spread of the disease. Protective equipment, especially masks, have a negative impact on nurse - patient communication. They dampen the volume of spoken speech, prevent reading and recognition of facial expressions. Nurses had to deal with these communication barriers while maintaining the nursing standards. Purpose of this work: The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to find out the specifics when communicating with a hearing-impaired patient. Methodology:The empirical part of this thesis was processed using the method of qualitative research analysis. To collect data, a semi-structured interview was used with nurses who worked at a covid-19 unit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The conversations took place in the period from March to May 2023. The conversations were recorded with the participants consent on a mobile phone by the use of the application Záznamník (recorder). The interviews were written afterwards in text, using the Microsoft Word program. Written data were then analyzed by the method of open coding, using the "pencil and paper"technique. The data obtained were divided into three categories, which were subsequently divided into subcategories. For better illustration, the individual categories and subcategories were drawn up in clear diagrams and described in detail. Results:The work results were divided into three categories, which are: hearing-impaired patient, barriers to nursing care and nurses' communication with hearing-impaired patients. Both categories are divided to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic, the period during the pandemic and the period after the end of the pandemic. Research indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the nurses' approach towards barrier nursing care and nurses have gained invaluable experience in the sense of communication with hearing impaired patients. They learned to improvise and use all available communication tools. They shared information, advice and psychological support with each other. Conclusion: This work documents the view of nurses on barrier nursing care and their influence on communication with hearing-impaired patients. The research showed that nurses overcame the communication barriers and were able to maintain the standards of nursing care. They adapted to demanding conditions, learned to use simple tools which made it easier for them to communicate with hearing-impaired patients. They deepened their mutual cooperation. At the same time, it revealed that most nurses coped with these problems based on their intuition. For nurses, this experience created the need for professional training in the field of communication with hearing-impaired patients. The work provides an overall view of the issue of communication in the nursing process when using protective equipment. It presents tools that can help overcome the communication barrier. The results may help other nurses in practice.
Professional Contagions in Midwifery Care
KAFKOVÁ, Kateřina
Professional diseases are diseases, acquired in the exercise of the profession. Damage to health at work, and is it as an accident at work, occupational disease or risk of an occupational disease (1). Professional diseases are diseases arising from adverse effects, especially biological or other harmful influences. Professional infectious disease is a disease that results from exposure to biological agents. The originator of the disease to humans is a portable and professional disease (33). The theoretical part deals with describing the professional diseases in connection with the activities of a midwife, further describing the types of diseases and prevention, such as vaccination and barrier nursing care. The research part of this work addressed the survey views, a description of the procedures and their own experience of midwives. The group consisted of six midwives working in various departments of the obstetrics Department of obstetrics at the hospital-Jablonec nad Nisou, p.o. Another part of the research describes the observation of midwives. Before processing this Bachelor's thesis were laid down three goals. The first goal was to find out whether a midwife shall comply with the principles of a barrier to care. The second objective was to identify which diseases are no longer a midwife. The third objective was to determine whether the midwife know the documentation associated with the reporting of incidents.
Nursing Care of Patients with Infectious Complications after Total Hip or Knee Endoprosthetic Replacement Nursing Care of Patients with Infectious Complications after Total Hip or Knee Endoprosthetic Replacement
BREJŠKOVÁ, Soňa
Infectious complications belong to the most serious problems after endoprosthesis implantation. Their solution is very demanding for its surgical and psychological aspects with regard to its devastating effects and uncertain prognosis. The percentage of infections complications fluctuates between 0.5 and 2 % nowadays. From nurse?s point of view the care about these patients is very demanding and has its exactly defined specifics. The aim of the thesis was 1: To map the knowledge of the causes of occurrence of infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint among nurses. 2: To map the knowledge on nursing care of patients with infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint among nurses. 3: To examine adherence to aseptic procedures in caring about patients with infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint. Three research questions were set to reach the goals: 1. What is the extent of knowledge of the causes of occurrence of infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint among nurses? 2. What is the knowledge of specific care of patients with infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint among nurses? 3. What is the extent of knowledge of specific needs of patients with infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint among nurses? 4. To what extent nurses adhere to aseptic procedures in caring about patients with infectious complications after TEP of hip or knee joint? Qualitative research was applied to elaboration of the thesis. Semi-structured interviews and involved observation were the data collection methods and techniques. The research was performed at the infectious disease department of the České Budějovice Hospital. The survey was anonymous, the interviews and observation were conducted from 1 to 25 February 2013 . The research has shown that nurses know the causes of infectious complications occurrence after TEP. It is also obvious that nurses are aware of the specifics of nursing care about these patients and they also have theoretical knowledge of the needs. However the analysis of the replies has revealed that nurses have problems with applying some nursing procedures, namely becauseof partial ignorance, uncertainty and impossibility to try some procedures. The results have also shown that all the nurses try to saturate physical needs of patients but not all of them are able to saturate patients? physical needs as they mentioned in their replies and as we could observe. These are particularly drawbacks in communication in the field of motivation, mental support and self care support. We have also found that most of the nurses adhere to aseptic procedures in nursing care of patients with infectious complications after TEP, but the results have also revealed weak points. More than a half of the nurses of the monitored sample fail to perform hygienic disinfection in compliance with the standardized technique and a third of them do not disinfect their hands even before the act. We have found further drawbacks particularly in handling sterile and biological material. The research results have shown that despite lack of information and experience the nurses proved their general knowledge of care about these patients in their replies. However there is still a lot to learn, both theoretically and practically. This thesis was written to bring basic outline of the issue of infectious complications after total endoprosthetic replacement so as it can be used as information material for both, experienced or starting nurses that are in contact with patients with infectious complications after TEP. A multidisciplinary seminar aimed at the issues of infectious complications after total hip or knee endoprosthetic replacement (see Annex 12) is the practical output of the bachelor thesis
The realization of the barrier care by students from Health-Social Faculty
STEHLÍKOVÁ, Jaroslava
The term barrier care is possible to define like a set of different working processes, whose aim is to destroy pathogenic organisms and to prevent them in repeated extantion. It is in principle about prevention of the hospital (in-patient) infections. Every student from Faculty of Health and Social Studies is during the studies notified of the principles of proper washing and desinfection of hands, of safe handling with laundry and biological material, but also of basic fundamentals personal safeness, to which come under e.g. the utilization of the personal protective aids, safe liquidation of the hospital waste et al. The work with title The realization of the barrier care by students from University of South, Faculty of Health and Social Studies is splitted into two parts. The theoretic part of the bachelor work tries to include the complex theme of barrier care, with a view to way of transfer of hospital infections, types of hand washing and hand desinfection, methods of sterilizing, the use of personal protective aids and some principles of safety. The results of nursing research are compiled in the experimental part of work. In the course of the research was used the quantitative method of collecting data with the technique of hidden observation. The students, which were observed, were from Faculty of Health and Social Studies, University of South, from 2nd and 3rd classes of present study called General nurse. The research was provided in Hospital Ceske Budejovice, Inc. The chosen wards for research were neurological, internal and surgical ward. In connection with the task of the bachelor work three targets were set together with six hypotheses to pertinent confirmation or negation. The authoress tryed to find out whether the students from Faculty of Health and Social Studies, University of South adhere a correct process of hand washing and hand desinfection, to what extent the students use personal protective aids and to what extent the students adhere to some fundamentals of their safety work. In conclusion there are the most important facts, which were ascertained and proposals on possible solutions. The authoress thinks that the bachelor work could serve as an informative material for another students and at the same time it could help teachers to aim the problematic parts of lessons or at training of practical skills, in which the students were slipped.
Prevention of urinary tract infection at the standard ward.
HOLZÄPFELOVÁ, Soňa
With its 30-40% share, urinary tract infections rank among the most frequent nosocomial infections. For patients catheterized for several days the probability of urinary tract infection is high. In most cases the infection may be prevented by reduction of excessively long catheterization of urinary bladder and by consistent observation of aseptic and antiseptic principles at all departments of the healthcare facility. For this reasons the theoretical part summarizes the current findings about urinary tract infections. In the research I have used a qualitative and quantitative investigation method. The qualitative part of the investigation used inquiring and observation by means of a nursing audit, in conformity with a developed standard ``Catheterization of urinary bladder``. In the survey we focused on catheterization of female patients. The quantitative part of the investigation consisted of questionnaires concerning catheterization of male patients. The purpose of the survey was to find out whether the nurses are informed about and whether they observe measures preventing infections of urinary tract during catheterization. The question formulated for the qualitative survey was: 1) Do the nurses observe the aseptic procedure during catheterization of urinary bladder? For the purposes of quantitative survey we proposed the following hypothesis: The nurses are familiar with measures preventing infection of urinary tract during introduction of urinary catheters. Observations of nurses during the audit have shown that all the surveyed nurses (8) during catheterization of urinary bladder observed the principles of asepsis and barrier nursing. Based on those results we confirmed the hypothesis that he nurses observe the aseptic procedure during catheterization of urinary bladder. The results from questionnaires have shown that out of 39 nurses (100%) at least one measure or principle of barrier nursing was known to 33 nurses (84.6%). The most frequent response provided by the nurses (28.7%) was the use of protective sterile aides. The results have confirmed the hypothesis: The nurses are familiar with measures preventing infection of urinary tract during introduction of urinary catheters. The results of the survey have been offered to the deputy director in charge of nursing in the hospital Nemocnice České Budějovice, a.s. as a source of information for continual improvement of nursing care quality.
