Elaboration and testing of an user manual for the operation of the Haux Medicom transport baro-chamber intended for the treatment of decompression accidents associated with diving, verification of the transport of the affected person and its transfer for subsequent treatment
KARVÁNEK, Jakub
The aim of this thesis is to develop and test a user manual for the operation of the Haux Medicom mobile transport hyperbaric chamber designed for the treatment of decompression accidents associated with diving, as well as the verification of the transport of the affected person in the barochamber, following connection to the stable treatment barochamber and the transfer of the affected diver for subsequent complex treatment. The Haux Medicom barochamber is used by members of the diving group of the South Bohemia Fire Rescue Corps to ensure safety during rescue operations and underwater training. The Baro Chamber is used to mitigate the consequences of diving accidents and especially to treat decompression sickness. This treatment is based on the principle of recompression therapy, where the pressure in the hyperbaric chamber is gradually increased up to the prescribed therapeutic pressure, followed by a slow decompression in combination with breathing 100% oxygen. Operating this chamber requires a lot of experience and regular practice. One of the aims of this thesis is to develop a simple, clear and functional user manual to assist the person operating the barochamber. This manual has been developed and its functionality has been tested by members of the diving group and other professionals involved in this field. The second task was to verify the transport of the diver in the barochamber and his subsequent transfer to a stable hyperbaric chamber to provide further treatment. In order to accomplish this task, a tactical drill was organized by the diving group of the Fire Rescue Corps in cooperation with the Kladno Regional Hospital and this unique, never before realized attempt was successfully carried out.
