Possibilities of physiotherapy for professional flute players

Music is an integral part of human life. Its therapeutic effects have been described, but it also affects professional musicians in terms of physiology. When playing a musical instrument, a player's body position is strongly influenced especially for musical instruments that require an asymmetrical posture. The flute belongs to this group of musical instruments. Playing this musical instrument may therefore involve certain health risks. The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to describe the movement stereotypes that may arise when playing the transverse flute, and then to propose compensatory exercises to mitigate the risks of musculoskeletal disorders in flutists. The theoretical part of the thesis includes a description of kinesiology concepts relevant to the subsequent practical part, such as movement stereotypes, deep stabilization system, posture and shoulder joint kinesiology. Furthermore, asymmetric loading and ergonomics of playing the flute are described. Health problems that can often occur in professional flute players are also discussed. The practical part describes qualitative research that was conducted with a group of flute players. A kinesiological examination was performed on the respondents. The lateral scapular slide test was used as an additional test to assess the relative position of the scapulae. The practical part also included the education of exercises from a pre-prepared exercise unit aimed at preventing the development of, as well as compensating for, movement stereotypes in flute players. From the results, we can say that the inclusion of compensatory exercises to the flute playing was beneficial for the respondents. The content of the paper could be used in clinical physiotherapy, and could also be useful for professional flutists themselves, or in the teaching of the flute in Primary Art Schools.
Influence of regularly repeated asymmetric load on the locomotor system in sweep rowers

Title: Influence of regularly repeated asymmetric load on the locomotor system in sweep rowers. Objectives: Aim of this diploma thesis is to compare posture, foot loading symmetries and prevalence of low back pain in a group of sweep rowers with groups of scull rowers and non-rowing probands based on the results of the pedobarographic assessment, assessment of the posture using method of moiré topography and the results obtained from the clinical assessment. Methods: Number of 21 sweep rowers, 20 scull rowers and 23 non-rowing peers were enrolled to the study of this diploma thesis. Each subject was assessed using DIERS formetic 4D and DIERS pedoscan devices. Additionally, participants in each group were assessed by FAIR test, Cluster of Laslett, triggerpoint palpation of the m. piriformis and Visual analog scale, that was used to assess intensity of pain in the lumbar region. Results: In comparison with observed scull rowers, sweep rowers showed greater rotational deviation of the trunk at the level of the L3 vertebrae and larger sway area of the COP on the left leg during quiet stance on both legs. Effect of asymmetric load on the stereotype of running.

Title: Effect of asymmetric load on the stereotype of running. Objectives: The aim of this experimental work is to evaluace the electromyographic activity of selected muscles when running without load and with load on the treadmill, and the co- current assessment of the impact of asymmetric load on the lateral weight distribution. Methods: Six recreational runners underwent the experiment during which we monitored electrical activity of m. deltoideus pars anterior, m. trapezius pars ascendes et descendens, lumbar paraspinal muscles, m. gastrocnemius lateralis and m. tibialis anterior while running without load and with load on the periphery of the upper right extremity. For the experiment a motor treadmill at a constant speed of 10 km/h was used and a 0,5 l PET bottle completely filled with water was applied as the load. Changes of lateral weight distribution were assessed having investigated stance on two scales. The measured values were statistically evaluated. Results: Within the group of all the probands it was proved that there existed an impact on normalized average amplitude of EMG signal at left-oriented m. gastrocnemius lateralis.
