An inquiry into self-esteem within a given range of clients with anxiety disorders

The thesis focuses on the issue of self-esteem in clients diagnosed with anxiety disorders. While this condition belongs to the most common mental illnesses, the role of the patient's self-esteem has not been sufficiently researched. The aim of the thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of the relation between anxiety and self-esteem, and to examine whether clients with so called Other Anxiety Disorder manifest specific differences in their level of self-esteem. In the theoretical part we summarize the key findings in the domain of anxiety disorder research; we further compare the different psychological approaches to the issue of self-esteem. There is a particular focus on authors who explore the possible causes and features of self-esteem deviations in patients with anxiety disorders, and who propose hypotheses regarding the nature and origins of this linkage. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of the explicit and implicit self-esteem level in clients with anxiety disorder. For the purpose of measuring explicit self-esteem we have used foreign questionnaires, namely the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the SLSC-R. Anxiety attacks are recurring unpleasant emotional states. Sleep disorders are characterized by an insufficient or excessive amount of sleep or its poor quality, which persist for a significant time period. These common disorders represent an important medical and socioeconomic problem. Opinions about etiopathogenesis and classification are constantly evolving. Complex treatment includes mostly removing the cause, lifestyle changes, psychotherapy, and pharmacotherapy. Antidepressants from SSRI or SNRI group are considered to be the drugs of the first choice in frequent anxiety disorders. The treatment of insomnia depends mainly on the type of disorder. Hypnotics should be reserved especially for short-term and transient forms of insomnia, the treatment of which must be started as soon as possible together with the cognitive component and the elimination of the primary cause of this insomnia. Obesity and psychiatric diseases

Introduction: Obesity is closely related to psychiatric disorders. I examined a sample of obese patients who were on VLCD / LCD during hospitalization. The aim was to determine the incidence of psychiatric disorders among obese patients and the development of their weight. Methods: Quantitative research was carried out at the D3 department at III. Department of Internal Medicine, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General Faculty Hospital in Prague. The data for the research was obtained from medical reports of patients on VLCD / LCD during hospitalization in the period 2018-2019. The results were compared with the Czech population and professional literature. Results: Data analysis shows that 42.2 % of women and 26.2 % of men in the sample suffer from a psychiatric diagnosis. The most common psychiatric disorder was depression and anxiety. The result of a comparison of a sample of patients on VLCD with the Czech population indicate that there is a similar proportion of depressive disorder among women on VLCD and individuals with obesity in the rest of the Czech population. In men, there is less incidence of depression on VLCD patients than in the rest of the population. Neurobiology of anxiety disorders

This bachelor thesis is focused on neurobiology of anxiety and is supported by corresponding literature search. In the thesis individual anxiety disorders are described together with selected risk factors important for the development of this disease. It also deals with biological hypotheses involving various changes in neurotransmitter systems and the influence of stress. Furthermore, it deals with fear conditioning, extinction of fear response and overgeneralization, all of which are forms of fear learning. Amygdala represents an important brain center of anxiety, consequently a description of its funcion along with amygdallar circuits are included in this thesis and different functions of other brain parts are described as well. Moreover, this thesis is concerned with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis and the influence of individual hormones on anxiety. Lastly, the role of the neuropeptide oxytocin and current studies regarding possibility of its use in therapy are presented. Obsessive - Compulsive Disorder in Social Work Practice

9 Summary This thesis deals with obsessive-compulsive disorder in connection with the practice of social work. It draws attention to numerous problems of anxiety disorders in society, risk factors for the development of anxiety disorders and risks in the social sphere. It also analyzes in detail obsessions, compulsions, manifestations and diagnosing of OCD and, last but not least, the practice of social work with the obsessive-compulsive disorder. Social work with people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder may be more challenging overall, requiring increased patience, knowledge of social workers, and the ability to use some important methods. The same importance is dedicated to managing clients to refer to follow-up professional help. People with OCD deserve support from experts and acceptance by the public, which is also a reason why it is so important to have knowledge of obsessive-compulsive disorder and do not underestimate this issue..

Problematic areas of life of university students suffering from social phobia

This thesis deals with the problematic areas of life of university students suffering from social phobia. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part explains the concept of social phobia and describes its symptoms and possible causes. It also mentions character traits or emotions which social phobia needs to be distinguished from. It also deals with the period of early adulthood and the description of the university environment with the focus on potential factors in both areas, which can bring problems or stress to the individuals with social phobia. Due to the nature of the work, qualitative research was chosen and an in-depth semi-structured interview was selected for the data collection method, in which five respondents participated. Data analysis has shown that social phobia seriously affects a number of areas of life during university studies. Based on the respondents' testimonies, it was found out that the area of relations, especially partner relationships, is the most complicated. Furthermore, social phobia significantly complicates the field of education and the area of work. Barchelor thesis focuses on anxiety disorders from a biological and psychological perspective. This thesis aims to provide anxiety disorders in their entireness. For this reason, thesis focuses on psychological and physical symptoms of anxiety. Topic contains unconscious symptoms manifesting inside of a man. Thesis is divided into two main parts. First one consists of literature review, the second one consists of experiment design. Experiment design deals with physiological symptoms of social phobia.
