English as a Lingua Franca in Multinational Corporations: A Case Study of Everyday Communication

Tato bakalářská práce vysvětluje problematiku anglického jazyka jako lingua franca a jeho využití v každodenní komunikaci v nadnárodních společnostech. Práce sestává z teoretické a praktické části. První část popisuje status anglického jazyka jako celosvětového jazyka a jeho využití v globálním rozsahu. Pomocí Kachrova modelu také popisuje současnou pozici anglického jazyka ve světě. Druhá část se věnuje praktickému využití anglického jazyka jako lingua franca v mezinárodních společnostech a zvažuje tři z nejrozšířenějších žánrů obchodní komunikace. Veškerý analyzovaný materiál byl použit ze zdrojů interní komunikace v nejmenované mezinárodní společnosti

Mobile Game for Practicing English Vocabulary

Cílem této práce bylo navrhnout a implementovat multiplatformní vzdělávací mobilní hru pro procvičování a rozšiřování anglické slovní zásoby. Hra je založena na pravidlech slovní kopané a jí podobných her se slovy a obsahuje režim online hry dvou hráčů proti sobě. Aplikace využívá platformu .NET, kde je implementována v jazycích C# a XAML. Činnost mobilního klienta závisí na vzdálených službách, které byly nasazeny s využitím vhodných cloudových služeb a integračních možností platformy Microsoft Azure. Verze mobilní aplikace pro Android byla publikována prostřednictvím Google Play v režimu přístupu pro testování a ozkoušena na uzavřené skupině uživatelů s vlastními zařízeními. Na základě zpětné vazby z testování byly navrženy možnosti dodatečných vylepšení v oblastech odstranění technických slabin a přidání nových funkcionalit.

Commented Translation: Measurements in Electrotechnics and Audiotechnics

Předmětem této práce je komentovaný překlad instruktá- žního textu používaného v univerzitních kurzech Měření v elektrotechnice a Měření v audiotechnice. Překlad byl vytvořen pro potřeby budoucích zahraničních studentů navštěvujících uvedené kurzy. Komentář uvádí důvody motivace k provedení překladu, překladatelské teorie a pohledy aplikované během překladu, potíže ke kterým v průběhu došlo a jejich individuální řešení, včetně konkrétních příkladů, a stručnou lingvistickou analýzu textu. Kromě samotného překladu tato práce představuje koncept slovníčků které by doprovázely každý laboratorní návod v textu. Finální verze překladu je připravena k posouzení, zda může být použita jako oficiální studijní materiál.

Internet Robot for an Assistance of Calendar Scheduling

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of the internet robot for assistance of calendar scheduling. The robot and a user comunicate with a subset of English. User does not have to study special syntax of the orders which makes using of the robot-calendar much simplier. This easement is the main contribution of the work. This kind of control should help especially to the users with lesser amount of computer skills, for whom the special syntax-oriented-control might be difficult. The XMPP protocol is used for a comunication which is of instant messaging type. NLTK toolkit was used for natural language processing. The source code of the robot is completely programmed in Python programming language. The work also deals with possibilities of robot's further development.

Temporal Logics for a Man

The work deals with the automated translation of a natural language to temporal logic. Existing research attempts are summarized and built upon. For specificating the temporal properties a subset of English is introduced. The main contribution of the work is the proposed algorithm of translation of a property in the given language to LTL temporal logic, based on processing of and finding patterns in grammatical dependencies of The Stanford English Parser. Future research directions are discussed at the end.

Cílem této práce je navrhnout a implementovat multiplatformní vzdělávací mobilní hru pro procvičování a rozšiřování anglické slovní zásoby. Hra je založena na pravidlech slovní kopané a jí podobných her se slovy a obsahuje minimální prototyp režimu online hry dvou hráčů proti sobě. Aplikace využívá platformu .NET, kde je implementována v jazycích C# a XAML. Části řešení dostatečně připravené pro produkční prostředí byly nasazeny s využitím vhodných cloudových služeb Microsoft Azure. Aplikace na Android byla publikována lokálně a ozkoušena na vybrané skupině uživatelů v rámci uzavřeného testování. Výsledky testování posloužily k určení stavu řešení v okamžiku dokončení práce a na na jejich základě byla navržena možná vylepšení nad rámec technických nedostatků a omezení.

Interference of Czech, German, and English with the focus on the quantity of German vowels

This work deals with language interference and the teaching of foreign languages and of their pronunciation. It provides a detailed description and comparison of the vowel systems of Czech, German and English. It then focuses on connecting the graphic and the phonic aspects of these three languages and looks for differences. In the research part, the author investigated how well the pupils of two third years of the Kolín Grammar School do when it comes to the German vowel quantity and its relationship with the graphic form of the language. The research took place in the phases of pretest, intervention, posttest. During the tests, the data was collected in writing - pupils wrote dictated German words and marked long vowels in preprinted words. The research was conducted first in one grade and then in the second to improve the intervention. During the intervention lesson the students were led, among other things, to derive a helpful pronunciation rule, according to which stressed vowels followed by at most one consonant should be pronounced long. In the German tests, numerous English interferences were noted, e.g. in the words Glas or Metall. To help detect English interference, the students also wrote a small test on English vowel quantity, which besides the interferences in German also revealed...
