Perceptions of the elderly by society
ŠANDOVÁ, Libuše
I chose the topic of my thesis The perception of Elderly by the society because I believe that it belongs to major actual topics. The whole world faces the demographic issue of aging population and our country is not an exception. The aging of population is accompanied by a number of problems, which may induce negative perception of aging among inhabitants of the particular countries and tension among generations. However, everybody must realize that they are heading towards old age because the aging process relates to everyone since birth. Old age is only a result of the lifelong process of aging.The aim of my thesis is to map the differences in the opinions of people aged 18 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, and 50 to 65 regarding the age when a person is considered to have become a senior. I also wanted to find out how the respondents feel about the situation and status of seniors in the society and to discover whether the attitude of the respondents towards elderly people is positive or negative. How the subjective perception changes with the respondents´ increasing age? Are there any differences in the opinions of men and women? In which age categories can we already perceive some elements of aging? To meet the objective of my thesis I determined the following hypotheses. H1: Persons up to 30 years of age perceive seniors and old age as a negative issue and later their perception changes to tolerance. H2: There are differences between the perception of old age and seniors by women and men not only within the particular age categories but also in general. H3: The current society behaves adversely towards seniors. In the theoretic part I am firstly addressing the individual phases of a human life. I am also paying attention to the period of old age and to changes accompanying the final part of human life. Subsequently, I am clarifying the terms age, geriatrics, and gerontology, which are connected with the topic of my thesis. Following is a chapter called Old Age and Society where I am addressing the issue of perception of old age in the past and at present. Another topic is aging. I am dealing with the term´s definition and the causes of its origination. Then I am tackling the topic of population aging. In the final part of my thesis I am focusing on financial securing in old age, retirement pensions conditions of the claim and its individual types. For my survey I used an anonymus questionnaire. I asked respondents aged 18 to 65, which I divided in the aforementioned four age categories and compared the results. The thesis may be used by society organizations as a basis for education of young people and it can also be published in the journal Kontakt.

Quality of Senior´s Life in Residential Facilities of Social Services
MATLASOVÁ, Kateřina
Today´s society starts to be intensively interested in life in general and old people´s quality of life, therefore I decided to focus this diploma thesis on seniors´ quality of life in social service facilities. The given goals were to map and assess the quality of seniors? life in chosen social service facilities in a former Jindřichův Hradec district, to compare the quality of seniors´ life in three facilities of the same social services in the frame of the former Jindřichův Hradec district and also to compare the seniors´ quality of life in different social service facilities. The research of this work was made due to a qualitative form. A semi-standardized (semi-controlled) interview survey method and a qualitative observation method, which was used to get the assumed goals of the whole work, were used. To get the aims I used an interview method which was done in Senior Apartment in Jindřichův Hradec, České Velenice and Budíškovice as well as in an apartment with day care in Jindřichův Hradec. It was also used a scale questionnaire called WHO DAS II as a complementary technique in all the social service facilities. The following hypotheses were made out in keeping with the given goals of this diploma thesis. The first hypothesis ? the more social active actions were offered in the frame of provided social services, the higher is the users´ quality of life of this service. The second hypothesis ? users of this service have higher quality of life in the district town than users of this service provided in a municipality with inhabitants less than 10 000. The third hypothesis ? users? quality of life in day care facilities is higher than users´ quality of life of a senior apartment. The given hypotheses were confirmed. We can say old people´s quality of life has been improved in the comparison with last years. I would recommend solving this problem with good communication and feedback which is necessary to find out how seniors are satisfied with services in facilities. It is also very important to keep each client´s private which leads to the feeling of certainty and safeness.
Human dignity in old age
PEKÁRKOVÁ, Lenka
The work is aimed on the concept of human dignity in terms of age. The first chapter is devoted to the basic definition of human dignity and human rights. I describe a certain views of human dignity and human rights. The second chapter is devoted to the perspectives of an age and changes in the old age, which are of great importance for the preservation of human dignity. An important part of an old age is a matter of dying, which is nowadays bound with a form of palliative care associated with the difficult ethical issue of euthanasia. The concluding part summarizes the problem of an old age that is not an easy life stage for everybody, and therefore it is important to try, in the term of the helping profession, to keep the human dignity of the old people if they do not meet it in their neighbourhood.
Relationship between locomotor activity, oxidative stress and aging in fire bug \kur{Pyrrhocoris apterus}
BUŘIČOVÁ, Marcela
The hypothesis that experimental manipulations increasing life span correlate to reduced physical activity and reduced molecular oxidative damage was tested. We used three longevity phenotypes of males and females of Pyrrhocoris apterus, diapause insects, reproductive insects and insect with ablation of the corpus allatum, an endocrine gland producing juvenile hormone. Protein carbonyl content in thoracic muscles was used as an index of molecular oxidative modification.

Interviews with six senior citizens took place in the first named retirement home and the remaining four interviews took place in the latter named retirement home. The findings of the research reveal how intergenerational relationships function, and what affects and forms them. The findings present the relationships between senior citizens and their children, their quality and frequency, their relationships with their grandchildren, and in some cases their great grandchildren, and with their siblings and friends. The findings show the stress of first coming to a retirement home and the importance of a family and/or friends when taking this step in life. The findings of the research emphasize the importance of activities in old age and the important areas of changes in one{\crq}s health and mental state, when changes in one area affect other areas and the quality of life of senior citizens.
