Behaviour and spatial activity of deer (red deer, roe deer) in the Šumava National Park in relationship to the damage on forest stands
Šustr, P. ; Jirsa, A. ; Krojerová, Jarmila ; Barančeková, Miroslava
The research of spatial behaviour and activity of red and roe deer has been carried out in the Šumava National park. Preliminary results show that one part of red deer population regularly migrates to higher altitudes during vegetation season, whereas the others stay in lower altitudes. Further, the activity of red deer was the highest during June and October, and the lowest during winter. A part of this study is also the research of feeding ecology of both species. We detected a relatively large proportion of needles in the diet of both species. Also the proportion of deciduous trees was relatively high in some parts of the study area. This indicates a relatively high influence of both species on natural forest regeneration
