Geopolitical and culture perspective of Western Sahara conflict

This bachelor thesis concerns with the topic of the Western Sahara conflict, its causes, its continuance and the (im)possibilities of its solution. First, attention is paid to the historical development of events, which to a large extent define the current situation. In addition, all the parties to the conflict are presented, together with their motivation and strategies. In this context, the thesis focuses primarily on geopolitical and economic factors, which continuously prevent effective solution of the conflict. The following section discusses the social situation in two areas - the occupied Western Sahara territory and refugee camps in Algeria. On the basis of field research, ethnic perspective of the conflict, everyday reality of crisis environment and its impact on local society are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the emergence of native population's nationalism and its importance in the context of the conflict. The presence of the international community is briefly mentioned, and its impact on the development of the situation is then analyzed. At the end, the thesis offers several alternative solutions and the analysis of them. Against the backdrop of the facts, political and social perspectives are discussed.
