Factors that affected the choice of study programme Social Work among students

This bachelor thesis deals with the factors that influenced the students to choose the social work degree, it aims to find out which factors influenced the students most in choosing the social work degree. Theoretical part is focused on the field of social work itself, its target groups, the personality of the social worker, but also the problems of choosing the professional orientation and, last but not least, the very circumstances influencing the choice of the future focus. For clarity, factors are divided into groups of psychological, social, personal factors, study factors, and work value factors. To elaborate the practical part, it was used the strategy of quantitative research, the method of questioning, the data collection was made using the technique of my own questionnaire. Respondents were chosen for the practical part of my work based on a stratified random sampling. There were interviewed 135 full-time students studying from the first to third years the degree of social work in the public administration. Three research hypotheses were formed for practical part. If previous education was more relevant factor in choosing their field of previous studies, then prospective application. If there is an increase of interest by students of social work degree during time of their studies. If use of professional counselling services was more common by students of humane and medical focused schools, then others. The questionnaire was made out of 12 questions. Primary aim of questionnaire was to find out influence by set up factors. Secondary aim was verifying fulfilment of research hypotheses from collected data. After the data collection, data matrix was written and subsequent evaluation under SPSS software was made. From the processed results, it is obvious that the respondents identified a group of psychological factors as the most important factors, whereas the most significant factor for them was the personality. Of the other groups of factors on the given students, the factor of the family was most influencing by the social factors, the personal factors included their interests. Considering the study factors, respondents mention the form of the study to be the most important factor and finally speaking about the factors in the work values, the self-realization in the field was the most crucial. The first hypothesis was found out incorrect, students were more influenced by future application. Both second and third hypotheses were found correct, there is the increase of interest among students during their studies and there were higher number users of professional counselling services by students of selected schools. Results from research can be use as information for faculty, also it can be suitable for students which want to choose the social work degree and it can be useful for them what to considered before choosing their career.

The bachelor's thesis deals with the factors that affected the students to decide for the study of Social and Charity Work at the Faculty of Theology of the University of South Bohemia. The theoretical part of the thesis characterizes social work, social worker and study programme Social and Charity Work. It also describes the vocation selection and analyzes the individual factors affecting the vocation selection. Practical part contains a research carried out through the anonymous questionnaires, which were distributed among students of Social and Charity Work. Its aim is to identify which factors and what extent affect the students in the choice of field of study.
