Discovering “the Unknown World” through the Eyes of Wandering Journeymen in the 19th and Early 20th Century

In the 19th and early 20th century the journeyman travels became an integral part of the training, a means of improving one’s income and a pre-requisite for becoming self-employed. In addition, they provided a better understanding of the everyday needs and customs in nearby and far-off foreign destinations and helped to bring the lifestyles of ordinary folk in various regions closer together.
