The Inquiry Lab Book as a tool for realization of inquiry tasks in optional biology seminar
HETFLAJŠ, Patrik
The diploma thesis deals with the application of inquiry lab book during optional biology seminar or during laboratory works. The main part of the thesis are several proposals of inquiry-based tasks with the theme of geology. The theme of geology was chosen because some researches show us that the attractiveness of geology is not high enough and geology in general is not too popular neither the pupils nor the teachers. The diploma thesis should serve as a methodical manual for the teachers that can help to teach the theme of geology more engagingly. The inquiry lab books enable students better do their work organisation and systematically gather the results of their work. The inquiry lab book can be used as an additional aid during regular biology lessons that complete the subject matter. Teachers can use the inquiry lab book as an evaluating element of the student's long-term work.

This thesis consists of a general retrieval of teaching geoscientific disciplines at basic schools and secondary grammar schools based on the national curriculum standarts including description of actual situation in a selected school where my teaching praxis took place. Worksheets for pupils and methodical materials for teachers will be created as means to support teaching in the geological park. Finally, the potential of the created materials will be evaluated from the attractiveness and better remembering of knowledge in geoscience disciplines point of view. Historical Evolution of Earth and Organisms on Earth in Textbooks for Secondary Education
Lacina, Martin Jakub ; Jedličková, Tereza (advisor) ; Matějka, Dobroslav (referee)
Teaching geology at lower and upper secondary school level in the Czech Republic consists of several compulsory thematic units established by the Framework Educational Programmes. Nevertheless, some topics are often not taught, despite they are included in textbooks. One of them is e.g. The Evolution of the Earth's Crust and Organisms on Earth. In this bachelor thesis the available textbooks are analysed according to this topic. The topic is discussed in terms of educational content, namely the occurrence and explanation of key concepts, selected subject matter and individual geological periods. Furthermore, the clarity of interpretation of this topic, cross curricular and interdisciplinary relations and additional information and questions for pupils were analysed. Based on the obtained information, one block of lessons was designed. It follows constructivist approach to learning and respects the current requirements for the modern concept of teaching. Main aim of the proposed lessons is to support the interest in chosen topic and to convey it to pupils and teachers in a more attractive way.
