Angels in the Bible. The Role of Angels in biblical texts

The Diploma thesis Angels in the Bible. The role of angels in biblical texts tries to describe the role of angels in the Bible based on the contexts containing the term angel. Then it analyzes and briefly characterizes individual texts of the Old and New Testament in which the term angel occures. With the help of this analysis it is possible to observe what role did the angels serve: they announced the birth of a son, God's election, God's commands, they become the life savers, leaders and protectors of the Israel nation and executors of God's punishment. An angel - interpreter acts in the apocalyptic texts. In the New Testament, angels also announce the birth of Jesus and John the Baptist, announce the God's will to people, they announce the resurrection and protect the church similarly to Israel. The most angels figure in the Book of Revelation and they play all roles known from apocalyptic literature: angel - interpreter, angel - guardian, as well as angels who participate on the heavenly council and effect the judgement according to the God's commands.
Exegesis of Job 28 (MT)

This work deals with the exegesis of the text of Exodus 24. The core consists in application of main exegetic methods to the Hebrew Vorlage. Exegetical methods used in the thesis are: Textual criticism, linguistic and syntactic analysis, semantic and narrative analysis, diachronic and pragmatic analysis, the analysis of historical background. Exegetical methods help us to properly interpret the text of Exodus 24. Exodus 24 is dedicated to the stipulation of a covenant treaty between the Lord and Israel at the mount Sinai. The mediator is Moses, it is him who receives the law and writes the words of the Lord. The acceptance of the treaty is highlighted by the way of sacrifices and of a common meal. The event allows the presence of to Moses, Aaron and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel close to the Lord.
Collective Responsibility in the Book of Genesis

This work deals with situations in the Book of Genesis, where the collective responsibility was used and the purpose what it was used for. First of all, the basic concepts of collective responsibility, guilt and forgiveness are defined. After that the work includes analysis of texts from the Book of Genesis 12:10-20; 18:16-33; 20:1-18; 26:1-11; 34:1-31. In the last section these texts are discussed from the perspective of collective responsibility. The key question: In what situations in Genesis is collective responsibility used? The analysis of individual texts showed that collective responsibility in Genesis is associated with punishment or warning. Collective responsibility showed the direction, which had to be followed by the chosen people to go to God, and warned before departing from this path and distancing from God.
Personification of Wisdom in the Old Testament

The thesis deals with the figure of Lady Wisdom in the Old Testament in the wisdom books of Job, Proverbs, Wisdom and Sirach. The opening part specifies the selected biblical texts of the Old Testament, the concept of wisdom in antiquity from Egyptian and Mesopotamian sources, and their possible inspiration for authors of wise scriptures. Next the thesis briefly introduces the chosen biblical texts and analyses the concept of wisdom in the each of them. To illustrate the nature and conduct of Wisdom the next part describes the importace of building a house for the ancient people. As an opposite to Lady Wisdom there is Lady Foolishness. Final part describes various forms of personified Wisdom in particular biblical books explaining her transformation within the course of Old Testament history.
Jesus in the Jewish tradition

This thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is focused on three resources - Christian, pagan and Jewish, which prove historicity of Jesus. In the second part, genealogies of New Testament with Jewish view in frame of prophets? quotes are compared, related to Messiah, including separated rabbinic tract Toledot Yeshu. The third part tells about Jesus's teachings, especially about his attitude to Torah, and about Jesus's miracles.
Aplication Old Testament Ethics chosen on specific corruption cause

The thesis examines the Old Testament ethical sources associated with the problem of corruption. The theoretical part tries to characterize corruption. Then it explains how social sciences attempt to view this problem, especially law, sociology and ethics. The analytical part tries to apply the Old Testament ethics on one particular case of corruption and to evaluate it from the view of social sciences.
The Czech Bible Translations from the Beginning of the 20th Century up to the Present

The thesis deals with the Czech translations of the Old Testament, the New Testament or the whole Holy Bible, which where made between 1900-2010. It introduces the Scripture translators and their collaborators, the origin of particular translations, the reviews in press, responses to their editions. It only makes a general passing comment about the linguistic aspect of the translations, however it indicates trends, which influenced some of the translators in their work.
Men{\crq}s relation to animals in The Old Testament and nowadays

This bachelor work only consists of a theoretical part which is divided into three main parts. The first one deals with men{\crq}s relation to animals in the Old Testament. It tries to define what determined this specific relation and what animal meant to human. The second part deals with men{\crq}s attitude to animals nowadays. It describes special ethical aspects that negatively affect animals, e.g. anthropomorphization of animals or, in the contrary, their degradation to mere objects. The third part tries to find a certain connecting link between present world and the Old Testament age and thus find an inspiration for today.
Graphic realization of a book: Bible for children

My thesis should combine all three specializations of my study, art education, civics and pedagogic. The objective of my work is creating an author{\crq}s book of Bible stories for children. The main idea is to approach Bible to atheists, or more precisely to unbelieving children. I entitled the theoretic part of the thesis Bible {--} What For? I explain there, why also an atheist should know Bible. I examine Bible from various points of view. I search the importance of Bible for different groups of people (believing, not believing, children, artists...), I think out the relation Bible {--} art, I write also about Bible in education. One chapter is about some sayings, names and other things, which come from Bible and we use them in common language. Also my personal experience with Bible has its place in my thesis. In the last chapter I describe the procedure of work on the practical part. In the practical part of the thesis I targeted the Old Testament. I retelled some stories from the Old Testament, so as they are suitable for children. Those stories I accompanied with a collection of ilustrations. They are made by lino {--} cutting. The collection contains 19 whole-page pictures, 5 half-page pictures, 3 little pictures and the book-jacket). I put my texts and ilustrations together to a book. The final design of the book is also a part of my thesis. I entitled this book of stories First Step to Bible.
Jerusalem as the root of problems of contemporar Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Bachelor thesis analyses reasons for the rise of Israel-Palestine dispute over Jerusalem, so called Question of Jerusalem. It provides a historical overview from the ancient biblical tradition to the contemporar state of peace process. The thesis place emphasis on analysis of the period of the second half of 19. century, the rise of arab nationalism, jewish sionism, as well as the formation of the state of Israel. The output of this bachelor thesis are possible variations of the future developtment in the Question of Jerusalem, predicating different state of israeli or arab administration over Jerusalem, supervision of international community, participation of resident population, security or economic developtment in the area. Finally, the thesis outlines the ideal variant of solution of the duspute over Jerusalem and conditions of it's realization.
