Karel Cvejn, description and reception of his literary work and criticism
URBANOVÁ, Kateřina
The aim of the thesis is to describe and analyse the regional publishing activities and literary criticism of Karel Cvejn, who worked in South Bohemia at the end of the 1920s and mainly during the 1930s. As this period was notable for its wide variety of social, political, and artistic views and schools of thought, a chapter with a brief overview of a historical and literary background related to South Bohemia has also been included as to make Cvejn's work perceivable in a broader context. In the following chapters, two periodicals of which Cvejn was the main editor have been analysed: a student magazine Gymnasion and a cultural and political quarterly called Jih. Within the subchapters, the concepts of these periodicals have been described, and, subsequently, Cvejn´s contributions into these periodicals have been analysed. Cvejn was also connected with South Bohemia because of his two collections of poems which are called Odjezdy and Slepec a včela. For this reason, one of the chapters of the thesis has been devoted to describing these works. The chapters dealing with the quarterly Jih and with Cvejn's poetry have been accompanied by contemporary reactions or reviews. The thesis also features a short summary of Cvejn's life and his further scientific activities no longer connected with South Bohemia.
