Somnipathy in the general practitoner´s surgery
SOUKUPOVÁ, Kristýna
The thesis presents sleep disorders (somnipathies) that bring a pacient to the general practitioner´s (GP). Disorders of that kind are very frequent nowadays. In the theoretical part, problems of sleep disorders are introduced and the relevant terminology is given and explained. The first part refers to physiology of the sleep {--} which conditions are considered to be the sleep and which are not, and the phases of the sleep. The second part focuses on diagnostics of the sleep and the classification of sleep disorders according to international criteria. The fourth part describes {\clqq}classical`` and alternative methods of treatment of those disorders. The last but one part of the thesis deals with dreams and the last part focuses on a {\clqq}sleep laboratory`` {--} and the role of a nurse at the examination. The objective of my thesis was to identify the most frequent sleep disorders and to find the most frequent causes. I also give account of the ways patients are informed about sleep disorders in GPs´consulting rooms. The survey shows that the most frequent disorder is insomnia (according to my investigation - 42% frequent awakening at night, 28% early morning awakening, 23% inability to fall asleep at night and 7% nightmares). The hypothesis number I was thus confirmed. The most frequent causes of sleep disorders are stress (in 43% patients interviewed), the negative influence of environment (23%), the present-day way of life (14%), the lack of physical activity during the day (5%). The hypothesis II was confirmed this way. According to my research patients who come to the GPs´are given enough comprehensible information on sleep disorders. The investigation was conducted in the form of questionnaires at GPs´ consulting rooms and some patients were also interviewed. This thesis may be used as a source of information for printing brochures promoting healthy lifestyle and as an active prevention of sleep disorders. It may be also used for educational purposes.
