Open source accounting systems for entities running business as individuals

This bachelor thesis deals with the open source accounting systems suitable for entities running business as individuals. The aim is to define the requirements for the suitable accounting software for such entities, and to compare selected open source products according to these requirements. Three selected open source products are rated and compared using the specified criteria. The beginning of the paper discusses the needs of self employed persons in accounting field, and emphasis is placed on defining the functional requirements for the accounting software. The aim is to provide an assessment of compared programs, with their advantages and disadvantages and to spread the word about open source tools and their strengths. The practical background of this thesis is formed by a site, which will deal with the issue of personal and corporate accounting and its description is contents of chapter No. 6. The second chapter of the thesis deals with definition of basic terms and the third one deals with the definition of minimum requirements for accounting software in terms of enterprising individual. Chapter No. 4 serves as an overview of the market with the open source accounting systems. There are the defined evaluation criteria in the chapter No. 5. Chapter 7, 8 and 9 deal with a comparison of selected applications. In conclusion of the thesis there is evaluation of fulfillment of the objectives.
