The relations among the distribution of prevailing winds in the winter Northern Hemisphere, solar/geomagnetic activity and QBO phase

The effect of solar/geomagnetic activity on the distribution of prevailing winds in the winter Northern Hemisphere was analysed in the winter periods of the years 1964-2001. It was found out, that while the strengthening of zonal flow over the winter North Atlantic was associated with high solar as well as geomagnetic activity, the occurrence of the meridional flow over the winter North Atlantic was associated with low solar activity only.
