The presented work focuses on the development of upholstered furniture in the time of normalization. Its objective is to describe breakthrough technologies, which were used both in Czechoslovakia and in the world in this period of time. The author believes that this goal was fulfilled with respect to the scope of this thesis. The text provides the reader with an overview of the evolution of production. This could prompt the reader to contemplate the furniture from the seventies and eighties, which can still be found in many households. The thesis also points out the connection between politics and everyday live. Furnishing was indirectly influenced by the political system; due to centrally controlled economy there was lack of variability in the assortment available on the market. In the conclusion of the thesis, the author presents a concept of an upholstered chair, which is based on the DX 220 model, designed by the architect Karel Šafránek, produced by Dyha Brno cooperative since the year 1987.
