Luigi Pirandello and Sicily

The introduction familiarizes us with basic characteristics of Sicily and its inhabitants, as well as biographical facts regarding Luigi Pirandello's period of life during which he lived there. Subsequently, based on analysis of author's selected writings, we try to find out to what extent has Pirandello's work been influenced by the Sicilian environment, history, inhabitants and veristic themes. For the analysis we will make use of three stories (Certificate, Amphora, Pensaci, Giacomino!), two plays (Il berretto a sonagli, Liolà) and the novel I vecchi e i giovani. In the end we summarize the results of the analysis to determine the degree of influence on Luigi Pirandello's work. Keywords Luigi Pirandello, Sicily, modern italian prose, italian theatre.
Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre.

The aim of the thesis called Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre is an analysis of three stage plays written by famous Italian writer Luigi Pirandello in pre-war period between years 1921-1930. The introduction, which is focused on Pirandello's life and his theatrical writings, which is divided into four stages: Sicilian theatre, humoristic theatre, theatre in the theatre and theatre of myths. Special attention is devoted to metatheatrical plays. Other chapters are concerned with the analysis of single plays: Six characters in search of an author (Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore), Each in his own way (Ciascuno a suo modo) and Tonight we improvise (Questa sera si recita a soggetto). The closing chapter compare these dramas and try to describe an evolution of characters and performance of theatre on the theatre.
Italian theatre of the Grotesque

(in English) This bachelor thesis deals with the portraits of three authors of Italian Grotesque Theatre in the years of 1916-1924, such as Pier Maria Rosso di San Secondo, Luigi Chiarelli and Luigi Antonelli. The introductory chapter presents the theatre and analyses authors' unique poetics, which, however, cannot be perceived as the programmatically defined theatrical movement. The first section of each chapter is dedicated to the authors' biographies, the second part to the analysis of their best known plays, such as Marionettes, what a passion! (1918), The mask and the face (1913), The man who encountered himself (1918) in the order given. By doing that, the thesis tends to reveal significant features of the above mentioned authors' poetics and analyse the development and changes of the themes and the artistic devices used in their works. The final chapter summarises the gained facts and observations and compares the authors' production in the Italian theatrical context of the time.
Pirandellian inspirations in selected comedies by Eduardo De Filippo

This bachelor thesis attempt, based on analysis of selected works by Eduardo De Filippo, to assess the impact of pirandellian poetic on the creation of this artist. In the introductory chapters there are outlined issues and development of De Filippo's and Pirandello's playwright production. Other chapters are devoted to their meeting and subsequent collaboration, which consisted in De Filippo's translation of Pirandello's comedies in Neapolitan dialect (Liolà, Il beretto a sonagli) and in the De Filippo's dramatization of short story L'Abito Nuovo. In subsequent chapters there are present fundamental analysis of four comedies Uomo e galantuomo; Io, lerede; La grande magia and L'arte della commedia. From this gradually changing character of these works, we can observe how the character of pirandellian inspirations transformed in the work of De Filippo. After there is also characterized the role of dialect in De Filippo's comedies. In the penultimate chapter, on the basis of analysis, I am trying to define a different concept of humor in the playwright production of these two artists. Luigi Pirandello: humor in his novel Il Fu Mattia Pascal

This thesis deals with an italian writer Luigi Pirandello and with one of his most famous novel: Il fu Mattia Pascal. The main aim is to find the examples of Pirandellos humour in this novel and to prove, that the novel is rightly called one of his first humour compositions. At the beginning of the thesis I introduce the writer and his works generally. Than I focus on his essay LUmorismo, which is important for analysis of the novel. In this essay Pirandello summarized the concept of his conception of humour. On the basis of the essay I analyse the novel.
