"He took care of everything possible, but not his parish.": Rudolf Horský (1852-1926) between politics and his parish

(in English): The topic of my thesis will be the selected life problems of Rudolf Horský, a Catholic priest, politician, and journalist.While Horský's political activity has already been partially discussed, in my work I will focus on Horský's privacy and everyday life, which will reveal a new perspective on the social position and possibilities of a politically active Catholic priest. Horský was an important figure of Christian socialism, which was forming at the end of the 19th century, but in fact he also contributed in a certain extent to the negative image of Catholics in society. In my work, among other things, I will try to offer some answers to the question of why it has happened so. It is Horský's private life that reveals some of the obstacles by which the priest-politician was limited and frustrated. It is about the overall limitation of the possibilities of a politically active priest. For example, the question of the priest's freedom of speech, financial dependence on the church or lack of time. Horský's priestly identity will be discussed as well. The sources that I use are, on the one hand, materials stored in the Národní archiv, primarily Horský's communication with his superiors. On the other hand, Horský's correspondence with Jindřich Šimon Baar, partially stored in the Památník...
