Supported Employment for People with Mental Disorder
BAČOVČINOVÁ, Marie
This bachelor thesis deals with the subject of supported employment for people with mental disorders. The main aim of this work was to determine the possibility of employment of people who have been diagnosed with mental illnesses. One of the fractional goals was to find out where clients and employees see obstacles in the project of supported employment. The obstacles are mostly found on the side of the employer and are most often caused by fear of the unknown issue. The other goal was to find out how the stigmatization of people with mental disorders affects their position in the open labor market. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical section, the thesis focuses on individual mental disorders and also on the topic of social work and employment of people who are mentally ill. The practical section was aimed at answering the three main questions: How the employment of people with mental disorders is supported. How the stigmatization of those people demonstrates itself in the workplace. And what role a job consultant plays in the project of supported employment by clients. The results show that the project of supported employment is very important for people with mental disorders and that their opportunity of finding a job in the open labor market, without professional help of job consultants, is very small. Clients and employees see a great advantage in the financial contribution which is always the main part of these projects. One of the circumstances which complicates the return to work is stigmatization of those people. I questioned the clients and learned that everyone has already encountered stigmatization in their workplaces or even while searching for a job. Supported employment might be seen as one of the components of the fight against the stigmatization of disabled people. The organization will use my bachelor thesis as a feedback but also as a tool for comparison the provision of supported employment services with the other organizations. The thesis might also help the employers to make their decision while considering the employment of mentally disabled people.
Transition programme
FLEISCHHANSOVÁ, Pavla
The author focused her thesis on the transition from school to work in people with mental disabilities. The Current Status section provides the basic terminology definition of mental disability. The Quantitative Evaluation section captures the division and characteristics of individual degrees of mental disability. These are followed by a description of individual signs and causes of mental disability. To achieve a theoretical balance of the thesis, abilities of people with mental disabilities are assessed also in terms of a qualitative personality structure. The thesis describes specific characteristics of mental functions: perception, memory, thinking, attention, emotivity, and volitive traits. The thesis mentions documents affecting the rights of people with mental disabilities and it emphasises the right to education and employment. Opportunities for upbringing and education of persons with mental disabilities are monitored by their age and within the Czech educational system. Job opportunities for young people with mental disabilities are governed by the Employment Act and specific social programs also have their impacts; they are, for example, supported employment and transition programme, which provide support to people with mental disabilities in fulfilling their right to employment and integration into the mainstream society. The objective of the thesis is to describe the method of the transition programme and the definition of the supporting factors affecting the degree of inclusion in the occupational environment. To answer the set research questions, the author chose a qualitative research. The qualitative research is conducted through a case study. The author chose the following methods of data collection: participant observation, document analysis, and problem-focused interview, using instructions, with the parents of young mentally disabled people who have used or still use the transition programme service. The course of the programme and the fulfilment of the set objectives are influenced by the user?s personality, his or her natural social environment, schools and teachers, employers and workplace environment, and the consultant?s personality and the quality of their work with the user. The author perceives the transition programme as a specific programme, defined by legislation, of social rehabilitation service, which has its established place in an open civil society.

The theoretical part includes the history of support employment, definitions of disadvantaged groups of people, symbols, standards, and the whole process of support employment. The final part gives a review of MESADA projects. The practical part deals with a survey. Conclusions of the thesis are based on the quantitative survey {--} the data were collected from questionnaires filled in by users of the support employment services provided by public corporation MESADA Jindřichův Hradec between November 2007 and late February 2008. Next, the author used the document analysis method. Statitistical data were gathered from Czech Statistical Office and statistical data collected by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The hypotheses that were put forward in order to find out whether the service users find this worthful and quality and whether this service meets their needs were proven correct. The outcome of the survey and the list of suggested measures to be taken in order to improve the service might be found useful in optimizing the support employment service provided not only by p.c. MESADA Jindřichův Hradec, but also in its other branches in the region of South Bohemia.
