Diploma thesis Closely Watched Trains: from the short story Kain to the short story, from short story to Oscar film and theatrical adaptations maps the path of Bohumil Hrabal's existential short story Kain, through the short story Closely Watched Trains, an Oscar film of the same name to theatrical adaptations that were dramatized by different people. The work also includes media response and comparison of the similarity of books, films and productions. The first part deals with the theoretical definition of literary genres, namely short stories and short stories. Review and criticism from the journalistic genres are theoretically described. The film and theater adaptation is defined and the dramatic structure of the film work is described. The second part presents the life and work of the writer Bohumil Hrabal and examines in more detail his distinctive writing style. The next sections are always devoted to the specific medium that the text carries. First, the text of the existential short story Kain is analyzed, followed by the short story Closely Watched Trains, including media coverage in the periodical press, followed by the Oscar-winning film Closely Watched Trains, which includes a biography of director Jiří Menzel and a chapter devoted to the Oscars. Theatre Na zábradlí in the period from the leaving of Jan Grossman till the coming of Evald Schorm
Fialová, Daniela ; Just, Vladimír (advisor) ; Topolová, Barbara (referee)
This thesis deals with the Theatre Na zábradlí in the period since the leave of director Jan Grossman in 1968 until the arrival of director Evald Schorm in 1976. The work at first summarizes the social and political situation after the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968 and put this situation into the context of culture. Then there is summarized the first ten years of the Theatre Na zábradlí and described the reason why the artistic director Jan Grossman had left. The main part is devoted to the Theatre in the years 1968-1976, and personalities which at that time worked in the theater. They were especially Jaroslav Gillar, Jaroslav Chundela and film directors - Jiří Menzel, Juraj Herz, Jiří Krejčík, Jaromil Jireš and Evald Schorm. The face of this scene in the difficult period of the Czech history is created through the contemporary reviews. The years 1976-1978 (time until the emigration of Jaroslav Chundela) are then described shortly to make complete documentation of this period.
Film and regime. Official and unofficial reflection of normalization film-making
Shehatová, Amira ; Klimeš, Ivan (advisor) ; Přádná, Stanislava (referee)
In my bachelor's thesis I deal with the reflection of selected normalization films of Věra Chytilová and Jiří Menzel in official as well as unofficial press. I am not concerned with the films on their own but rather with the reactions in newspapers, samizdat and exile periodicals. First I outline the contemporary historical and social context. Further I pay attention how did the changed political arrangement influenced the official culture and media. Then I continue with alternative culture description which includes printing the samizdat periodicals. To complete the picture I include the texts from exile periodicals as well. Next two chapters of my thesis examine the particular texts in detail. I was mainly interested in how the critics percieve the same films from thier different ideological, social and geographical position. What they can agree on and when on the contrary their views are completely different. Key words: film, normalization, samizdat, exile, Věra Chytilová, Jiří Menzel
