The romantic rebuilding of the castle Hluboká
NAUŠ, Stanislav
Although Hluboká castle is one of the shining examples of Romantic architecture, this bachelor thesis tries to prove that historicising reconstruction still offers many challenging questions. For the lack of a monographic work of romantic reconstruction of Hluboká castle, the author, at first, introduces the main protagonists who are responsible for current look of the castle. Key moments from the life of Jan Adolf II. von Schwarzenberg are presented in the thesis (an English journey, his marriage, other construction plans), but there are also two architects presented: the first one was Franz Beer who did not create only in the service of the Schwarzenbergs, but even in another Central European genera. The second architect was Franz Damasus Deworetzky, a Schwarzenberg construction director who became famous for his decorative contracts. Then, the treatise follows which treats preserved plans according to which the original baroque castle was transformed into the present form. Besides the already known designs, the author tries to interpret previously unknown drawings and compare them with the final realization. The explanation of subsequent changes that took place at the castle after the Beer's departure is not missed in the thesis as well. The chapter is written in the unconventional style of interpretation, it is not taken chronologically, but as a "walk" around the exterior of the castle. At first, the reader will be familiar with the architecture of the garden frontage, then he moves to the main castle courtyard. Although the basic forms of the character of Hluboká castle reports to the English architecture, the author tries to prove that there is also an inspiration of Central European contemporary architecture. The selected examples from English and German surroundings will outline deep kinship to the other aristocratic residences. This thesis confirms not only a vivid exchange of information about contemporary style but, because of the chosen approach, the more excelling architectural unique means used on Hluboká castle. The final essay of the thesis tries to show the exceptionality of Swarzenberg residences. The presented summary of the information expresses the opinion that Hluboká castle served its owners not only as a dignified representation but also as a tribute to the ancestral memory.
