Rap as a form of political protest: the case of Muslim rappers in France

The thesis deals with the issue of the interconnection between the spheres of politics and religion in contemporary secular France. The case of three Muslim performers of the rap conscient music genre was chosen for research in this area. The thesis first focuses on the more general question of the circumstances under which politics and religion are linked in contemporary secular France. It soon becomes clear that music plays a key role in this interconnection. Furthermore, the thesis seeks to establish whether accusations of proselytism and Islamic fundamentalism against selected rappers by right-wing and radical-right parties are justified. It attempts to achieve this finding by using the method of qualitative content analysis of the motifs that appear in the lyrics of the songs, focusing on the motif of Islam. Following this analysis, and supporting it with research into deeper context, the thesis concludes that although the motif of Islam is present in the song lyrics, it is only in the form of fighting Islamophobia. Rather, the fight against discrimination in general plays a major role in the work of the selected rappers. The controversy was therefore most often caused by a misinterpretation of these lyrics.

Diploma work "The exclusivity of God's revelation according to the Bible and the relationship to other world religions namely Islam and Buddhism" is about comparison between the Biblical revelation and the basic faith statements of others religions particularly Islam and Buddhism. The work also tries to answer the question if the Bible expresses the exclusivity by itself and in which area the exclusivity is the most significant for the life of believers. The aim of this work is also to look for spiritual principles that could be common with other religions as well as the principles that lead to disconnection between these religions. In the end, the work is concerning the possible ways of inter religion discussion in the context of world religion systems.

Islam in the service of politics, politics in the service of Islam

The objective is a theoretical analysis of mixing politics and religion in Islam, a description of the functions of political and religious institution in Islamic society, and comparison with the Occidental concept of the relationship of religion (extension of the Church) and politics. The reality is mediated by the media quite often through the confusion of terms (such as Islam and Islamism, Islamist or Muslim and Arab and Islamic world) misinterpreted. Very easy it is based on generalization and inappropriate metaphor to create an unfavorable opinion about the culture and the people with whom the author did not even have personal experience. In this thesis should be separated by "West" view of the Islamic religion and politics and perceptions of the Islamic religion and politics through the lens. Part of the thesis is devoted to comparing the performance and Iran and Turkey in relation to the topic, i.e. how these two countries have religion and politics and what is between these two components of the relationship. The issue is the compatibility of Islam with democratic type of society and intercultural dialogue between the "Occident" and Islam.

Motivating Factors for Radicalization in Balkan Muslim-Majority Countries

The topic of religious radicalization in the Balkans is gaining attention among academia in recent years. However, motivational factors of radicalization in the region still remain rather under-researched. Furthermore, comprehensive research focusing particularly on the motivational factors of Islamist radicalization in the Muslim-majority countries of the Balkans - countries with a specific context and background unique in the wider Europe - hasn't been yet carried out. This paper thus elaborates on the motivational factors of radicalization in the Muslim-majority countries of the Balkans, which is Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Kosovo, by applying generally-known factors of radicalization to this specific theatre. Predominantly secondary sources as well as documents issued by the OSCE which maintains field presence in all of the abovementioned countries are utilized in order to provide a thorough overview of motivational factors of radicalization in each of the selected countries. These are discussed respectively in corresponding chapters. Individual chapters are in dialogue with each other following the same methodology and structure, focusing on similar issues. The issue of social status of Czech women - Muslim women

This diploma thesis "Social status of Czech women-Muslim" is divided into practical and theoretical part. The theoretical part contains two sub-chapters and 11 sections, which all the essentials of the issue are contained in. The theoretical part includes the history of Islam with regard to the historical character of the Prophet Muhammad. Also it deals with the holy book for muslimy- Quran, sunnah and other important documents of Islam. It characterizes the five main pillars of Islam. Subsequently it deals with the special position of women in Islam. The theoretical part includes a description of conversion to Islam. The work represents the Islamic community in the Czech Republic and Czech anti-Islamic group. Thesis deals with Islamic fundamentalism as well. At the end of the theoretical part, the important sociological concepts such as social stratification, social role and social status are defined. The practical part presents the results of interviews. These interviews were semi-structured and Were Carried out 15 interviews with 15 responders. The aim of the the empirical part was to answer the research question, That is: "What is the social status of Czech women who converted to Islam and live in the Czech Republic?" At the end the thesis includes a discussion.

Customs of Muslim Family in the Czech Republic

The thesis "Customs of Muslim family in Czech Republic" is focused on the traditions and customs of Muslim family from the point of view of young Muslims who live in the Czech Republic, concretely in Prague. In the opening chapters islam, its origin and five principles of Islamic religion are introduced. Family, marriage, Muslim traditions, customs, feasts, ceremonies, celebrations and nourishment are emphasised in the following chapters. In the conclusion of the theoretical part, history od Islam and Muslims in Europe and Bohemian countries is mentioned and Muslim congregation and Islamic nadation in Prague are introduced as well. Second part of the thesis consists of empirical research. Methods and aims of the research are defined. Respondents and the analysis of data are described as well. Regional Differentiation of Swahili Identity - Case Study of Vanga and Ushongo

This thesis deals with the formation of the Swahili identity within two countries: Kenya and Tanzania. The Swahili people have inhabited the East African coast since the first millennium, utilizing local resources to trade and to create their sophisticated social position. The philosophy of Islam had a considerable influence on the development of the Swahili culture. These traditional elements typical for the Swahili culture were significantly restricted by the period of colonialism, where newly formed boundaries divided this ethnic group. The situation on both sides of the border is analysed through quantitative and qualitative research, which offers a complex view on the issue. The results show that selected cities are very similar with only small differences - often related to the closeness or openness of the village towards increasing tourism. In general the established boundaries play almost no role in shaping the Swahili identity. The Swahili people retain their traditional position within the East African coast, although their relations with other countries are less pronounced as the distance between them increases.

The development of Islamic banking in Great Britain with focus on Al Rayan Bank

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of Islamic banking in Great Britain with a particular focus on Al Rayan Bank. Islamic finance has become more relevant in the Muslim countries, however, it is also increasingly present in the western financial structures. Although the process is still in its infancy, it is possible to observe specific differences among the countries. Great Britain is (to some extent together with Luxembourg) characterized as a country with the most developed market of Islamic financial products on the continent. The development in the country has been going on since the late 70s and early 80s and it has been affected by many factors. One of its most essential milestones was the establishment of the first wholly Islamic bank in Europe named Islamic Bank of Britain (later renamed to Al Rayan Bank) in 2004, which concentrates on retail market. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to observe this unprecedented development and to identify circumstances and elements that contributed to it.
