Abstract This paper describes the influences on decisions to invest in human capital. Emphasis is placed on the diversity of influences acting on the inhabitants of different parts of the Czech Republic to verify the assumption of a greater incentive to invest in education for people from smaller towns. On the concrete data it shows that these areas have different condition for investment into the human capital. Furthermore, some data were tested by regression analysis. It aims to demonstrate the dependence of educational attainment on unemployment, loss of wages and wage gap between college and high school graduates. Surprisingly, we found the dependence of demand for education only to the difference in wages gap.
