Dignity and ethics in the designated aspects of nursing applied in care homes for the elderly
HLINŠŤÁKOVÁ, Lucie
This thesis deals with the dignity and ethical aspects in the areas of communication with the elderly; dignified approach towards the clients during the hygienic care; and dignified approach towards the clients when serving meals and drinks in a specific care home with nursing. There were three objectives chosen for the purpose of the qualitative research of this thesis. The first objective focuses on monitoring how the dignity is maintained in communication with the elderly; the second objective focuses on monitoring how the dignity is maintained when providing hygienic care for the elderly; and the final objective focuses on monitoring how the dignity is maintained when providing the nutrition and drink scheme care for the elderly. There were three research questions established to meet the objectives of the qualitative research of this thesis. The first research question: "What elements of dignified communication are used by nurses during communication with the elderly?" The second research question: "What elements of dignified care are used by nurses when providing hygienic care?" The final third question: "What elements of dignified care are used by nurses when providing nutrition care for the elderly?" The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part defines the basis of dignity and ethics; as well as three other areas, such as the communication with the elderly, hygienic care and appropriate application of nourishment and drinking scheme. Data callected for the empirical part are based on the qualitative research using techniques of covert and overt observation followed by semi-structured interviews. Research respondent group consisted of five nurses previously chosen by the director of the care home with nursing. The research showed that the approach of nurses towards the clients was not always with dignity. The aim of the covert and overt observation was to understand whether the nurses were aware of their behaviour. The outcome of the empirical part show that nurses who did not treat the clients with dignity and ethically, were aware of their behaviour. The output of the diploma thesis is a forthcoming article describing particular issues and findings of the research in this thesis.
Ensuring Privacy for Patients in a Common Department during Selected Nursing Procedures
KLOUDOVÁ, Dana
Abstract This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of privacy of hospitalized patients whose health status does not allow them to perform hygienic care and bowl movement. The aim of this work was to find out how nurses in the common hospital departments ensure the privacy of patients when performing hygienic care and bowl movement, and what obstacles prevent them from ensuring sufficient privacy. Some nurses also had the opportunity to express how they could improve patient privacy. The qualitative research was conducted in one of the district hospitals of the South Bohemian Region in four common departments: the Internal Department, the Surgical Department, the Department of Neurology and the Aftercare Department. The research was conducted through an interview and was attended by eight nurses, two from each department. As a complementary method, a participant observation that took place in the above mentioned departments during my practical training was chosen. The results of the research revealed that nurses provide sufficient privacy when performing hygienic care and bowl movement when the patient is able to be transported to the bathroom or toilet. In case the patient undergoes hygienic care and bowl movement in the room, his privacy was not fully ensured, with some exceptions. According to the nurses, the obstacle is the insufficient number of social facilities that are part of the rooms and the lack or complete absence of screens in the wards.

Last goal was to fin out, what was the general knowedge of the "evidence based practise" phrase among nurses. Materials and methods Research investigation of the thesis was performed using the methods of qualitative and quantitative research. Quantitative research was perfefomed using the questionnaires distributed among general nurses working at inpatient wards. Results of research were evaluated using graphs and tables. Pearson´s chi square test was used for statistical processing. Qualitative research was executed using the direct observation method. Six different categories were set. Data were colected to record form, which was later on used for analysis of observed figures. Observation was focused on comprehensive hygienic care, divided into following categories: oral hygiene, care of hospital clothing, bathing of not self-sufficient patient, care of nails, skin and washing the hair. Results Results of the thesis allowed to clarify links between performing the hygiene care and evidence-based practise / good practise. These results can also be used as a contribution on coferences regarding this topic and as a material in teaching the nursing. Using the statistically preocessed data, hypotehsis were evaluated. H1: General nurses perform particular nuring techniques more based on habitual practise of their department than on local professional health care standards. H1 was confirmed. H2: General nurses perform particular nursing techniques more based on habitual practise of their department then on EBN. H2 was confirmed. H3: General nurses with the bachelors or masters degree have better awareness of EBN than nurses witout university degree. H3 was confirmed. Research question was asked - What is the role of EBN in particular nursing techniques? Observation study revealed that EBN is not of high importance in performing nursing hygiene care. KABÁTOVÁ, Anna
Hygienic care in the intensive care unit is one of the procedures, which lead to improvement of the patient's health state. If it's done in the correct way it helps to improve not only physical but it also influences psychological side of the patient. In the theoretical part of my work is an explanation of the base of the intensive care unit, it's equipment and personnel security. I also focus on different levels of hygienic care, mainly on the descbrition of the correct steps of all procedures. In the theoretical part is a describtion of the hygienic regime, that is valid in the intensive care unit and there is a basic describtion of the principles of barrier care. In the empirical part provided the following objectives : To check the knowledge of nurses when it comes to hygienic care of the patients hospitalised in the intensive care unit . To determine this goal was established hypothesis : Nurses have sufficient about how to provide hygienic care. The second objective of this To find out how nurses perform hygienic care This goal was set research question : How the nurses perform hygienic care of the patients in the intensive care unit?
The role of nurse and family members in discharging of immobile patiens
PŘIBYLOVÁ, Radka
This thesis deals with immobile patients´ defecation. Even though people feel ashamed to speak about this delicate and intimate problem it should be concerned with. Healthy diet, drinking regime, exercises adequate to patient´s age and fitness, stress elimination and defecation reflex training seem to be the best prevention to the problem as the laxative treatment of subsequent complications is less suitable. The research survey was firstly aimed at mapping the role of nurses who take care of immobile patients´ defecation and the obstacles they face and secondly, at the role of family members and the financial means which they are able to spend on such care. The findings of the research survey fully result from the interviews with six nurses working at the long-stay ward and six family members of the patients staying at the long-stay ward of the Hospital in Jindřichův Hradec,a.s.. At the same time six patients of this ward were observed. The charge nurse provided the permit to do the research and the ward sister was informed orally. The analysis of research findings led to making up an information leaflet which instructs patients in keeping healthy diet so that they can avoid defecation problems. The research survey findings will be offered to the staff of the hospital long-stay ward where the survey was run to help them improve the care of immobile patients.
Feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients in hospitals
MINÁŘOVÁ, Miroslava
The bachelor thesis deals with feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients in hospitals. The paper aims at finding out whether the sanitary care carried out in hospitals corresponds to the needs of the patients and further at identifying factors impeding the provision of sanitary care according to the applicable standard. The paper also aims at suggesting new feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients at bed departments. In view of these goals four research questions were set: 1) Does provision of sanitary care in hospitals correspond to the needs of patients? 2) Are the patients satisfied with the sanitary care provided by the medical staff? 3) What impedes the nurses in provision of quality sanitary care for the patients? 4) Is it feasible to improve the sanitary care for patients in bed departments? The method of qualitative research was applied for collection of research data. The questioning method by means of structured interviews with the patients was chosen. The questionnaire contained 17 closed questions. Further method was an unstandardized interview with the nurses containing 11 open questions. Another method was structured impartial monitoring of patients and nurses. The results were noted and entered into tables. The research file was made up by the in-patients and nurses in the Neuro Surgery Department of the University Hospital in Pilsen. By means of the research the level of sanitary care was surveyed, the impediments to its provision were identified and suggestions for its improvement were formulated. The aims of the research were fulfilled. Based on the analysis of responses in the practical part of the research, hypotheses were set based on the 1st and 2nd questions and based on the 3rd and 4th research questions answers were formulated. H1 {--} The sanitary care provided in hospitals corresponds to the needs of the patients. H2 {--} Patients are satisfied with help of medical staff when providing sanitary care. Response 1 {--} Nurses are impeded in providing quality sanitary care for patients by lack of time and lack of staff. Response 2 {--} Feasibilities of improvement of sanitary care for patients at bed department are respecting privacy of patients, washing the patients' hands before meals and provision of lifting devices for lying patients. The facts found out can help to realize the importance of sanitary care and to motivate to keep the existing good level of provision of care at the department the research was carried out at.
