Nature conservation, farming and quality of life of human population in protected areas in connection with historical and cultural aspects - case study of the Třeboň Biosphere Reserve and Landscape Protected Area
ŠIFTOVÁ, Barbora
The dissertation deals with the conflict between economic growth in the Třeboňsko region, the requirements of the local population in regards to quality of life, and the preservation of biodiversity. The introduction is dedicated to explaining and approximating the topic and to emphasising its significance. A detailed literary research study presents a part of the work, with the title ?PLP Třeboňsko ? issues of biodiversity, economic growth and human habitation?. Also tackled here is the question of the development of tourism and general recreational activities in the area. The body of the dissertation is appropriated to research on the ground amongst the population of the PLP and an evaluation of the results of this investigation. The conclusion of the work specifies particular problems facing the area (conflicts between development projects and the agenda of the PLP administration), which are currently being handled or are likely to in the foreseeable future, and also presents suggestions as to how they may be solved or prevented. The result of the dissertation is the realisation that the region of PLP Třeboňsko has the potential to retain its contemporary natural and scenic value into the future. Statemandated institutions must however fulfil their legally binding roles and functions without exception. It is necessary to prioritise the resolution of such basic transgressions as is failure to uphold the ordinance of an administrative authority. According to the testimony of the local population, these are nowadays taking place in the PLP and are not subject to due recourse. It is imperative that the sentiment of environmental protection reach out to a majority of the local population in the future. It is a duty and obligation of the administration of the PLP, the Environmental Protection Unions, charitable organisations and erudite individuals, to ensure that the general public have sufficient access to scientifically accurate information. The answers of individual respondents further revealed a general feeling of alienation towards the current state of society in the Czech Republic. The aim of this dissertation is to highlight the fact that even relatively educated individuals struggle to find their bearings among the issues of environmental protection and landscape preservation. This, I believe, should be a future aim of change. If, as a result of the findings published here, at least one case of increased public interest in a concrete environmental protection issue arises and, consequently, the issue is purposefully and sensibly resolved, then this dissertation was meaningful and, from my perspective, fulfilled its purpose.
