Cajun French: mirror of the past, of the present and of the future

The thesis seeks to give an overall image concerning the linguistic situation of Cajun French of Louisiana. This regional variant of French is spoken by a minority group of speakers in this state. Given that the paper was created in the Czech academic community where Cajun French is virtually unknown, it tries to spark more interest in this topic. The first chapter presents the theoretical input to the outlined problem and Czech works dealing with Cajun French. The second chapter shows the basic facts about Louisiana, as well as the key events in its history. It examines the creation of Cajun French and characterizes its specific features. It also includes a mention of Cajun French reference books. The third chapter examines the legal status of the French language in Louisiana. Furthermore, the work sheds light on its French language policy, carried out mainly by a state agency called CODOFIL (the abbreviation comes from Council for the Development of French in Louisiana).The thesis later explains what the adherence to Francophonie would mean for this state. This is followed by an account of the relations entertained with Francophonie. French New Circus

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to indicate the possibilities of application of a cultural theme into teaching French as a foreign language and to use benefits not only for an improvement in the language skills but also to broaden cultural general knowledge. The cultural phenomenon and the main theme of the study is new circus that originated in the 1970s in France by combination of the traditional circus and the street theatre. The first part of the thesis describes the history of the circus. The second part is concerned with contemporary types of the circus art with an emphasis on new circus. After the terminological specification we will pursue the expansion of this art abroad and we will observe the influence on the art in the Czech Republic. The third part focuses on the composition of the methodological sheets serving as the models for teaching French classes with the intention of broadening cultural knowledge and improving the language skills. It focuses mainly on the frequency of gallicisms in Russian during the various stages of historical development from the first contact of languages to the present. The aim of this work is to determine as well as explain the French influence on Russian vocabulary, explore today's language situation and demonstrate acquired knowledge on selected lexical units grouped in the final analysis of the thesis. In introduction, the work is devoted to the characteristics of historical relations between Russia and France. It concentrates particularly on the important milestones in the historical development of Russia limited by the reign of specific sovereigns. In the introduction, the work is devoted to the characteristics of analyzed languages and it defines the essential differences between French and Russian in their classification, orthography and phonetics. It mainly focuses on the differences in phonetic systems of the languages, which are crucial for the issue of transcription. The thesis then defines the development, use and types of the transcription and discusses the methods to transcribe one language system to another. The thesis also defines the main principles for transcription from the Latin script into the Cyrillic script.
