European capital cities of culture: Linz 2009 and Pilsen 2015

This bachelor thesis deals with the European capital cities of culture Linz (2009) and Pilsen (2015), comparing their programs that will be sustainable for both cities after the year as the European capital city of culture. The first part of this thesis is devoted to the title the European capital city of culture itself, its history, and also the conditions and legal lines for winning the title. The differences between the conditions for Pilsen and Linz are compared, which had to meet both cities. The second part is focused on the program and projects from both cities. Special attention is given to the symbolic new buildings of two cities - the Ars Electronica in Linz and the building of the New Theatre and DEPO2015 in Pilsen that are sustainable for both cities. The last part is focused on the comparison of projects in both cities. This part is oriented on the cooperation and inspiration of Pilsen of Linz and on the results of titles from both cities.
