An alternative JPEG coder/decoder
Jirák, Jakub ; Kiska, Tomáš (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
The JPEG codec is currently the most widely used image format. This work deals with the design and implementation of an alternative JPEG codec using proximal algorithms in combination with the fixation of points from the original image to suppression of artifacts created in common JPEG coding. To solve the problem, the prox_TV and then the Douglas-Rachford algorithm were used, for which special functions using l_1-norm for image reconstruction were derived. The results of the proposed solution are very good because they can effectively suppress the artefacts created and the result corresponds to the image with a higher set qualitative factor. The proposed method achieves very good results for both simple images and photos, but in the case of large images (1024 × 1024 px) and larger, a large amount of computing time is required, so the method is more suitable for smaller images.
Client Tools for Accessing DNS Registry
Škorvaga, Vojtěch ; Polčák, Libor (referee) ; Matoušek, Petr (advisor)
This document describes the work solving the extension of a set of registration utilities for registering domains in application Fred (free registry for enum and domains). I added library and programs written in Java and C language that enable communication between central register and clients via XML protocol EPP (RFC 5730) and SSL/STL layer. I used libxml2 library for processing XML and OpenSSL library for processing SSL/STL in C language. In Java I created system of automated creation XML files form XML schema. System is based on ANTLR. This work was solved in cooperation with CZ.NIC (domain registrators).
Sperm competition in birds and causes for its intra- and iterspecific variation
Šplíchalová, Petra ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Poláková, Radka (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on describing the occurrence and within- and between species variation of extra-pair paternity (EPP) in socially monogamous birds. In the first part of thesis I discribe variation in EPP levels among birds - I identify species with no EPP ever recorded, and species with extreme values of EPP. Extra-pair paternity seems to be more common in passerines than non-passerines. In the second part of my thesis, the most influential correlates of EPP levels in passerine birds are discussed. I summarize contemporary knowledge of the effect of these (mostly ecological) factors on EPP. These include breeding density and synchrony, population genetic diversity, adult mortality and longevity and male contribution to parental care. Key words: promiscuity, extar-pair paternity, extra-pair copulations, sperm competition
Latitudinal and altitudinal trends in sperm morphology and estimated levels of promiscuity in passerine birds
Krejčířová, Zuzana ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Sedláček, Ondřej (referee)
Sexual promiscuity, whereby females copulate with more than one male, is a quite common phenomenon in socially monogamous birds, and especially in songbirds. This behavior is assumed to influence the evolution of various anatomical traits associated with male ability to outcompete other males in the process of sperm competition. High promiscuity is, in a multi- species comparison, associated with higher relative testis mass, but may also affect sperm phenotypes and other male phenotypes. Sperm morphology is clearly differentiated across avian species and some studies suggest that stabilizing post-copulatory selection on sperm length is responsible for a clear association of between male variation in sperm length and levels of promiscuity. However, the association between other phenotypic traits and promiscuity remains less clear. In this study, I focus on sperm characteristics in relation to the estimated levels of promiscuity in songbirds of tropical and temperate zone climates, and across an altitudinal gradient in the tropics. I found that the coefficient of variation in sperm length, both between males (CVbm) and within males (CVwm), was indeed a good index of promiscuity. I also reveal the size of cloacal protuberance as an anatomical trait intimately associated with the level of sperm...
