The Novel "Universe": Basic Aspects of M.A. Bulgakov's Master and Margarita
Fléglová, Marie ; Frappartová, Nataša (advisor) ; Charvát, Martin (referee)
Mikhail Afanasievich Bulgakov was a Russian novelist and playwright active in the first half of the twentieth century. The work of this author is unforgettable for the modern Russian literary art of the fist half of the twentieth century. Known by writings with very strong plots and engaging storyline, he did not fear confrontation or conflicts within individual works. His dialogs are masterfully constructed and his feel for humorous vision of life and description of the world is regarded as unreachable. A fascinating and almost unbelievably inspiring Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita has become the model for this diploma thesis. Due to its multi-layering, broad topical range, two intersecting storylines and the content, the thesis has been named The Novel "Universe". It contains everything that makes life life: love, death, betrayal, courage and cowardice, generosity and envy… Bulgakov's success received thanks to this work is rooted in the masterful connection of the two parallel stories (ongoing in Moscow in 1930 and in Jerusalem at the beginning of our era), in fantasticality and in the view of the contemporary social situation, which are depicted in the novel, and lastly in the description of the human characters constancy. Due to these arguments, the thesis focuses on the following...

The topic of my thesis are jinn - supernatural beings typical for some communities in the world of Islam. In the Introduction the main objectives of my thesis are set: What is the role of jinn in the Muslim society? And why are they a subject of Islam? At the beginning of the work a comparison is given of the jinn and the other types of rational beings, in order to distinguish them from the later and show what it is to make them unique for the Quran. In the next part we will find a classification of the jinn and a comment on what is the purpose of such classification. The main part of the work is interested in the phenomenon of jinn possession. Examples are given from the anthropological researches and statistic data are mentioned. Then a discussion of the explanation of the jinn possession by authors of these researches is provided. Then follows an important chapter "Jinn possession as form of communication in the society" which occupies itself with marital therapy and healing rituals and also with some more general impact. In the Conclusion the answer is provided for the questions from the Introduction. The phenomenon is explained as a complex of learned social behaviour, "a game" if you want, which enables to strengthen the relationships within the society. Special channel is open for...

Jičínská, Jana ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The present thesis focuses on the topic of exorcism in the Synoptic Gospels. The introductory chapters characterize the practice of exorcism in the cultures of antiquity and Judaism, clarifying some of the specific emphases of these rituals. It then introduces the perspective of the New Testament on the subject, including a short list of terminology related to the designation of the enemy of God in the synoptics. Separate chapters are dedicated to Jesus' statements about exorcism, exorcism narratives and general reports. Each chapter treats in great detail the different exegeses, and the relevant terminological and stylistic peculiarities. The merits of the individual findings, which are summarized in the concluding chapter, are duly assessed from several perspectives, primarily biblical theology, but also underscoring some issues concerning pastoral theology and the practical applications of these findings.
