Public licenses and public domain as alternatives to copyright

The work first introduces the area of public licenses as a space between the copyright law and public domain. After that, consecutively for proprietary software, free and open source software, open hardware and open content, it maps particular types of public licenses and the accompanying social and cultural movements, puts them in mutual as well as historical context, examines their characteristics and compares them to each other, shows how the public licenses are defined by various accompanying movements, and also analyses which obstacles to the usage of public licenses are put by the Czech law. Approriatioon and recycling of media images

The bachelor thesis Appropriation and Recycling of Media Images focuses on how media images get outside their original context and how this changes their function and meaning. The work contains of three parts. The first part acquaints the reader with the method of appropriation and recycling, with its beginnings and its specificity. The second part investigates what icons are and how art uses them. We need to introduce basic semiotic terms in order to be able to explain how the meaning changes and how media icons work. In the third part, I focus on particular cases of appropriation and recycling, which are divided into separate subthemes according to their character, i. e. painting, political iconography, models and self-projection into iconic photographs. The fourth part occupies with the relationship between appropriation and copyright. It embraces subchapters on Czech copyright, Creative Commons licences, theories about free culture and particular cases of apropriation and recycling from the point of view of copyright infringement.
Web social networks and galleries as the support of building career of individual in the field of the art photography

The master thesis is focused on recent inosculation of photography and modern information technologies and also on a daptation of photography to current trends in communication. Special emphasis is set on fine-art photography. Besides delimitation of problem the first part of the text is dedicated to foundation and history of photography where the author refers to dramatic changes that had taken place in the early beginnings. The second part is dealing with contemporary phenomenon - social networks and their moving into the virtual space of the Internet during last decade. The author aims on key aspects of social networks which have a significant influence when in combination with photography. The next part shortly deals with problems of copyright that show up in relation to digital photography. Part of text is devoted analysis of several selected systems specialized in fine-art photography publishing and eventually their selling. The author describes their significant attributes, principles on which they are based and mentions differences among each other. The fundamental part of the document is focused on practical view of interconnection between fine-art photography and digital information technologies whereas the ideas relates to pieces of knowledge gained from several selected and interviewed...

The use of Creative Commons licenses as an efficient way to share information

Licence Creative Commons (CC) umožňují jednoduchý způsob udělení povolení k užívání autorských děl, jako jsou texty, prezentace, obrázky, videa nebo hudba. Autor se sám rozhoduje, v jakém rozsahu nebo za jakých podmínek mohou ostatní lidé jeho dílo využívat bezplatně. Uživatelé takto licencovaných děl poté mohou v souladu s příslušným typem CC licence díla dále užívat, šířit nebo přetvářet. Cílem této příručky je seznámit čtenáře s možnostmi, které jim CC licence nabízejí. Chceme ale také nabídnout kuchařku, jak konkrétně CC licence využívat, kde hledat licencovaná díla, jak uvádět původ díla, na co si dát pozor a kdy se využívání těchto licencí spíše vyhnout. Nezbytným úvodem je potom mini exkurz do autorského práva a důležitých pojmů, s nimiž budeme operovat.

Copyright protection in online media

This diploma thesis deals with protection of copyright within online media, with a focus on personal blogs. The author presents definition of basic terms of copyright, especially definition of usage of the work and description of way of use, and deals with the issue of liability for copyright infringement and identification of persons who carry the responsibility. This thesis is also dedicated to copyrights itself and its instruments of enforcement. Increased focus is put on available jurisdiction, especially jusrisdiction of The Court of Justice of the European Union. Finally, the author conducted a survey among the authors who publish their works online to determine their experience with the violation of their rights.
Copyright law in schools

This thesis covers the topic of copyright law in schools. It is an overview of the usage of the copyright law, especially in the practice of pupils, students, teachers and other pedagogical workers. It tries to present an integrated overview of basic rules which can be used in the educational process in the areas of creation of an original work, licenses, non-contractual usage of the original works and the liabilities for breaching the copyright law. It covers the situations when the pupils, students, teachers and other pedagogical workers are the creators of an original work as well as cases when these people want to use original works created by others. A part of this thesis are comments from practice and findings based on surveys and discussions with the pupils and pedagogical staff.
