Bartolomé de las Casas and the conquest of America: law, religion and apostolic mission in the Indies
Vidal, Andres ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
Bartolomé de las Casas fought during whole of his life for the freedom of the natives of the New World. Our intention here is to know the anthropological and metaphysical foundations of his speech, think and protest. The discovery of the West Indies is for Las Casas, a sublime opportunity for the Spanish Crown to realize the apostolic mission according to the example of Christ and his disciples, martirs and saints. In this sense, this archaic-medieval world, in America is suddenly current. Therefore instead of opening new perspectives - spiritual and epistemological - on the opposite way, it is offer a new chance for the more deepest convictions established in the oldiest medieval Judeo-Christian tradition mentalitie.
