Hydrokinetic swirl turbine
Fryčar, Michal ; Veselý, Jindřich (referee) ; Haluza, Miloslav (advisor)
There has been a notable increase in interest in renewable energy harvesting over the past two decades. This has been accompanied by the emergence of new technologies and research, which are driving developments in this area forward. One of the sources is also kinetic energy of river streams and tidal currents. The aim of this thesis is to formulate fundamental equations for the utilisation of kinetic energy of water and to design a hydraulic model of a swirl turbine runner. A further aspect of this thesis is to verify the previously formulated equations in the computational modelling software Ansys CFX and to analyse the effect of the draft tube on the power output of the turbine.
Material wear due to cavitation erosion
Lecnar, Lukáš ; Kozák, Jiří (referee) ; Rudolf, Pavel (advisor)
This Master’s thesis is dedicated to cavitation erosion of a material surface. First part of thesis describes basic principle of cavitation and its erosion consequences of solid objects. There are mentioned basic cavitation models used in CFD software. Second part incorporate concept design and numerical calculation of critical shape in reference to highest intensity of cavitation erosion at flow area. Last part of thesis is experimental and it is focused on cavitation erosion at flow area due to critical shapes from numerical calculation.
Manufacturing inaccuracies influence on an appearence of the additional moment on a sailboat rudder
Kazda, Adam ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Štigler, Jaroslav (advisor)
This Master’s thesis is dedicated to a generation of an additional torque, which can occur due to the inaccuracy of the manufacturing. This issue is inspired by a real case from 2013. In this work CFD modeling is used to investigate three different sources of the additional torque: misalignment of the rudder, deviation of the propeller shaft and asymmetry of the rudder. A simplified 2D simulation is done for all three cases. This simulation is more suitable for a jet powered boat. Therefore the asymmetry of the rudder is investigated also in a 3D case, where the rotational component of the flow behind the propeller is included.
