Evaluation of CASE tools for database design
Brotánek, Jan ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Bruckner, Tomáš (referee)
The focus of this thesis is on designing a process which can be used to evaluate data modeling CASE tools and tools supporting database designing. It maps requirements which are currently imposed to these tools and based on them defines criteria for their evaluation. Process is tested on a set of commercial CASE tools as well as open-source tools. Tools are evaluated based on set criteria and a product which best meets these requirements is recommended. The process is evaluated, modified and published as a seperate attachment after a verification process which uses a set of tools.
The Use of ArchiMate Language for Enterprise Architecture Modeling
Šmahel, Martin ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Stehlík, Hynek (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the introduction and use of the ArchiMate enterprise architecture modeling language. The main goal of the thesis is to describe the basic principles and elements of the ArchiMate language. Other objectives are creating of an overview of CASE tools which support ArchiMate and demonstration of the capabilities of the language in a practical example which deals with the modeling of enterprise architecture of a selected organization. The thesis is divided into four parts. Introductory part uses available sources to define basic concepts of the enterprise architecture. Second part introduces basic principles and elements of the ArchiMate language based on an official documentation. This part also includes a market research of CASE tools which support the ArchiMate language. The third part of the thesis describes an example of the ArchiMate language use for the modeling of enterprise architecture of a selected organization. The final part discusses pros and cons of ArchiMate and summarizes results of the entire thesis. The main contribution of this thesis is that it provides a manual for potential users of the ArchiMate modeling notation. Other benefits include creation of a list of available CASE tools supporting the language and a showcase of possible practical uses of the ArchiMate language.
Analýza, návrh a implementace informačního systému pro malou firmu
Srna, Antonín
Bachelor thesis addresses the creation of the information system of the company Fish for sale Pístovice. In the theoretical part, we will focus on the definition of essential terms related to this discipline of software engineering. Then, the methodology and possible approaches to the analysis of information systems are outlined. A practical application of the mentioned methodics on the structured analysis of the information system then follows. It's based on the acquired requirements of the proposed system. In the next chapter, the system is described via description of the utilized software (modelling with the CASE tool PowerDesigner, implementation with programming language PHP and the database MySQL). In the final part of the thesis, the developed system is assessed, and its deficiencies and possible improvements are dis-cussed.
Metodika pro výběr a nasazení CASE nástrojů
Hradecká, Petra ; Prof. Ing. Václav Repa, CSc. (advisor)
The goal of this master’s thesis is to develop a methodology for CASE tool selection. This work consists of two parts. The first part is about software engineering, methodologies for IS development and its categorization, CASE tools and meta-modeling. The rest of the part is about methodological framework and current situation on the CASE tools market. The second part contains the methodology for selection of CASE tool. It is an open methodology and it offers a set of recommendations and procedures that are derived from best practices gathered from available resources and other similar methodologies. The main idea of this work is to devise a methodology for the CASE tools selection. The selection process is divided into several different segments that are analyzed in detail. The methodology distinguishes between both situations when the company either owns an existing CASE technology or it does not use CASE technology yet. The methodology suggests intensive internal communication during the selection and emphasizes the involvement of future users in the process. It is important to increase chance for smooth implementation and successful acceptance of the CASE in the company. The importance of considering differences in structure, character and the scope of projects, requirements for project management and maturity level of processes during the CASE tool selection process is highlighted.
Selection of available CASE tools
Šmahel, Martin ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Řepa, Václav (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is aimed at search, selection and comparison of CASE tools for data, object and process modeling and teamwork management. The contribution of this thesis is a recommendation of a suitable tool for computer science courses teaching at the University of Economics in Prague. Research of favorable academic pricing and licensing conditions that can be applied during acquisition of selected tools is also a part of this thesis. In the first part of the thesis requirements of courses in particular functional areas are defined. Criteria for tools comparison are drawn up from these requirements. The next part is focused on CASE tools market research and tools for the comparison selection. Selected tools are compared using defined criteria and their academic pricing deals are explored. The last part of the thesis contains recommendation of an affordable CASE tool to support teaching at the University of Economics.
