Lhotová, Žaneta ; Sládek, Pavel (advisor) ; Žonca, Milan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is introduction and analysis of the concept of dybbuk in early modern Ashkenazi culture with a focus on a specific story describing exorcism in Nikolsburg. The first chapter summarizes the historical development of the phenomenon within the attitude of the Jewish society, the second chapter presents a comprehensive overview of methodological approaches and their development throughout history. The third chapter aims to describe the phenomenon on the basis of a comparison of several individual stories about the possession of the dybbuk, in which the central position will take the story "What Happened in Nikolsburg", the Hebrew version of which is contained in Sara Ṣfatmanʼs book Ṣe ṭame: gerush ruḥot be-Yahadut Ashkenaz be-reshit ha-ʿet ha-ḥadashah. The fourth and final part contains my Czech translation of the text of this story.
