Humor at school as a protective factor of interaction between teachers and students

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of humor in school and the characteristics of a humorous teacher. The purpose of this work was to verify the connection between the humorousness of a teacher and his ability to create a condition for fulfilling the basic psychological needs of students. Another purpose was to describe the characteristics of a humorous teacher from the way he views himself and how the students see him. The last purpose is to verify if the humorous teacher can be considered successful. 244 students from lower secondary schools and lower gymnasium were involved in this research. There were also 12 teachers participating in the research. Two questionaries were used, the Students Evaluation of Educational Quality and the Teacher as a Social Context. The data were evaluated by correlation analysis and comparing arithmetic averages of each of the questions. The research discovered the connection between the humorousness of a teacher and how the teacher, from the student's point of view, fulfills the aspects of good relatedness with students, creating an environment for gaining competence and giving space for the autonomy of students. The biggest success was found to be in pedagogical and psychological characteristics. The expectations of the teacher's characteristics of friendliness, professionalism, and fairness were verified. The results of this research can be applied in everyday teaching.

The present thesis deals with the popular teacher. The theoretical part brings the concept of the teacher, provides further evidence of the teacher's personality in terms of psychology. The theoretical part also includes chapters dedicated to the typology of teachers, teacher competence concept and also brings visions of successful teachers, guidance teachers and research results. The practical part is based on research that was conducted through in-depth interview.
