The Essenes- religious group which is most often connected with Qumran scrolls- is presented and for the sake of better understanding we also zoom in the historical setting of their time. Finally, the movement of the Essenes is compared to Early Christianity and the idea of votive life. We draw certain conclusions about potential influence of the Essenes on Christian monasticism.
