Vávrová, Gabriela ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
Reading literacy is indispensable literacy for every individual on his way through education and his future full-fledged application in everyday life. Each state aims to increase the level of educational attainment in the country. To develop pupils' reading skills can help them to achieve better results in education, including in science education. For the possibility of developing reading skills, it is necessary to map their current situation in elementary schools. The aim of this work was to map the reading skills of pupils in the teaching of biology at the lower secondary school. For this purpose, a set of six worksheets containing three-tier tasks was created and was solved by 110 pupils in the lower secondary school. When creating the three- tier tasks, the author relied on the theoretical starting points of this work, which include the issues of scientific literacy and reading literacy, including the results of Czech pupils in the tests on literacy skills, the Czech curriculum system and the typology of learning tasks. From the evaluation of the worksheets, it was found that the students answered all the questions from the set of worksheets with an average success rate of 57 %. According to gender, the success rate difference was statistically insignificant.

This diploma thesis deals with the expected outputs in the school curriculum and the variability of natural history teaching in the Vysočina region. The aim of this work is to find out whether it is processed with the expected outputs and whether the teaching of natural history in the Vysočina region is varied and interesting. The work is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical part. In the theoretical part, they describe the curriculum document, RVP, school legislation and what is the trend in science education. The practical part is divided into quantitative research and qualitative research. In the practical part, the expected outputs from 82 school education plans are classified according to coding, and model lessons of natural history at five selected schools are also described. In the diploma thesis, information is written about subject plans and curricula, and whether teachers are used. Excursions on which teachers and pupils most often completed several hours of auditions and thanks to these auditions, I was able to see several different teaching methods. These methods are described in the work. I ran into several problems at work. For example: "Is it important for the school to have significantly expanded expected outcomes? Is it possible to fulfill all these outputs? I...
Critical Thinking of Secondary-school Students in Biology Education
Škodová, Zuzana ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
In the 21st century, when we are faced with various fake news, huge media massage and omnipresent pressure, society keeps considering which information is true and which is false. Being able to think critically about various news we hear on television or radio will help us evaluate whether it is true or false. According to Jenkins (2015), critical thinking is not easy, nor is it an intuitive human skill. Therefore, we need to put more emphasis on future teachers to intersperse their lessons with critical thinking methods so that the future generation is prepared and able to distinguish between true and false information. The main aim of this thesis is to find out the level of critical thinking development of students in secondary school. To fulfil this goal, research was conducted at the Secondary Medical School in Turnov. The research sample consisted of twenty pupils in the first year of the medical lyceum during October and November in the school year 2022/2023. Preparations based on the E-U-R method with included professional texts were created for the selected lessons. The multidimensional instrument IMI was used to determine the perception of the lessons from the students' perspective. Based on the conducted research, it was found out that it was very difficult for the students to choose the...
Students' Argumentation Skills in the Topic of Tick-borne Diseases
Balík, Tadeáš ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
ABSTRACK We consider argumentation skills to be a necessary attribute of effective communication in the present day for full application in both personal and social life. For this reason, these abilities are purposefully incorporated into education at primary and upper primary schools in the form of a key communicative competence. Pupils' argumentation skills can be developed through targeted teaching activities on appropriately chosen topics that encourage discussion. The purpose of this work was to map the skills of formulating one's own arguments in the topic of tick-borne diseases and the possibilities of their prevention among pupils in upper primary school. For this purpose, a complex task was constructed and presented to 369 pupils. Pupils' formulated arguments were evaluated according to their frequency, effectiveness and factual correctness. The pupils' argumentation skills were shown to be at a low level. It was found that the pupils' arguments were influenced by the grade and their personal attitude towards the topic under consideration. For the effective cultivation of this skill, we consider it desirable to pay systematic attention to it in primary and upper primary education through targeted activities. Analysis of Visual Components in Lower Secondary Biology Textbooks
Heřmanová, Nikola ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
Visual components and their function and use in textbooks are currently a topic that appears in a number of researches and studies. Visual components have a demonstrable influence on the effectiveness of learning and at the same time they help reduce the cognitive demands on students. The thesis in the theoretical part defines the textbook as a didactic tool, visual components and the method of processing visual components. Furthermore, it points to learning strategies for increasing the effectiveness of learning, which are based on work with visual components. The practical part is focused on the content analysis of visual components in the lower- secondary biology textbooks. The function and use of the visual components in the educational process was evaluated. The result of the analysis shows that the visual components in the textbooks are extremely uniform and do not respect the complexity of learning through visual components. Teaching Program on the Topic of the Respiratory System for Elementary Schools Using Activation Methods
Bašová, Tereza ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of the respiratory system and its inclusion in the teaching of natural sciences. The topic of the respiratory system can be quite abstract for pupils in terms of gas exchange or overall anatomy of the respiratory system. In the context of today's time of global pandemic, is important topical topic. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with the analysis of the problems of the respiratory system, the analysis and content of this topic in the FEP for basic education. Within the theoretical part, classical and activating teaching methods were also analyzed, which were crucial for the subsequent creation of the educational program. The aim of the practical part of the thesis was to create and verify the proposed educational program on the topic of the respiratory system at primary school. This research was carried out in the 8th grade of elementary school and the phenomenon examined was their conceptual understanding, which was verified on the basis of mind maps before, after and with a time interval after the teaching program. The results show that the educational program had a positive effect on conceptual understanding and work using activation methods has a positive effect on pupils. It is evident from the recults that the educational program had a...
Use and Comparison of Selected Activating Teaching Methods by Attitude Questionnaire at the High School
Chvojová, Valerie ; Ehler, Edvard (advisor) ; Vojíř, Karel (referee)
The central theme of the thesis is activating teaching methods, of which eleven were selected and used for its research. Specifically, these were the following ones: brainstorming, guided discussion, snowball method, inquiry-based learning, I.N.S.E.R.T. method, work with text, concept map, mind map, critical thinking method, rounds and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). These selected activating teaching methods were compared according to how the students evaluated them through attitude questionnaires, which is determined as the main aim of the work. Attitude questionnaires were created from the IMI (Intrinsic Motivation Inventory) tool. In the attitude questionnaire, the students evaluated the individual teaching methods in scales of interest/pleasure, perceived competence, effort/importance, pressure/tension and value/usefulness. In the scale of interest/pleasure, the snowball method was the best evaluated by the pupils, in the perspective of perceived competence also the snowball method, in the effort/importance scale the CLIL method, in the scale of pressure/tension inquiry-based learning and in the scale of value/usefulness again the snowball method. For further evaluation of the results, an index of subjective evaluation of teaching methods was created. It showed that the best...
Analysis of the Topic of Prokaryotes Presented in Biology Textbooks for Lower-Secondary Schools
Jarošová, Lenka ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
Textbooks as material teaching aids perform countless functions, represent the content of education of the specific subject, contain transformed scientific findings or fundamentally affect motivation of pupils to learn. A part of the basic curriculum of natural sciences are also prokaryotes, whose issues have not yet been mapped in textbooks. The main objective of the thesis was to perform the content analysis of the prokaryotic topic in natural sciences textbooks for primary schools with a valid clause of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. In the thesis the structuring of the given topic was ascertained among the individual titles. The terms contained in chapters dealing with the topic of prokaryotic organisms were analyzed. Two approaches were used for the analysis, the method bearing the open coding label was used for the qualitative data analysis, the quantitative approach reflects the percentage of terms falling into the same meaning category and subcategory in the given titles. The analysis shown there is inconsistency between textbooks in terms of representation of the topic of prokaryote and except the textbook published by Prodos and Taktik, the textbooks do not take into account the problematic of archaea in any way. The terms are mostly connected to...

Micák, František ; Svobodová, Silvie (advisor) ; Vojíř, Karel (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of environmental literacy, or more precisely, the detection of the environmental attidues and nature relationship of the college and vocational schools students in the South Bohemia. Six secondary schools participated in the research - three of them environmental orientated, three schools without this type of orientatiton. Five hundred and twenty-seven respondents were involved in the research. The new current version of 2 Major Environmental Values (2-MEV) was applied. The fundamental goal of the thesis was to discover the connection of the school profiling, grades, genders, nature relationship and an outdoor activity of the respondents. Only a signigicant difference of the school profiling and nature relationship was identified. In this surveyed area the secondary school students with the environmental orientation achieved higher degrees than all the rest of the students. The gender role of the students showed no significant difference across all the school profiling. The school grade proved to be a statistical non important determinant. Last but not least, in the case of outdoor activities, a walk in nature dominates identically among all the respondents.
